About the Role and Research Focus The Tech & IT Decarbonisation team at Climate Risk Horizons works on advancing understanding of how digital and technology industries can transition toward lower carbon and resource-efficient operations. The team’s recent work includes: Analysis of decarbonisation pathways for global technology companies and supply chains Research on energy consumption and water impacts of data centre expansion Evaluation of sustainability disclosures and regulatory frameworks The Research Consultant will contribute to ongoing projects focused on secondary data analysis, policy review, and sustainability research in the technology sector. Key Responsibilities The role involves a combination of qualitative and quantitative research tasks, with a strong emphasis on structured analysis and documentation. Core responsibilities include: Compiling and analysing diverse research materials such as: Regulatory frameworks and policy documents Industry sustainability disclosures Technical standards and ratings systems Conducting secondary research using publicly available datasets Reviewing national and international energy and water regulations Maintaining organised and rigorous research documentation Tracking developments in energy and water policy relevant to IT and technology sectors Supporting the preparation of reports, blogs, and analytical publications Communicating research findings clearly and concisely The role requires strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex technical documents. Required Qualifications and Skills Applicants are expected to have a strong academic and analytical background suited to policy and sustainability research. Minimum requirements include: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in one of the following or related fields: Economics Statistics Public Policy Environmental Studies or related disciplines Experience working with large volumes of qualitative data Ability to conduct structured secondary research Foundational quantitative analysis skills Strong written and verbal communication abilities Ethical and rigorous research practices Preferred Experience While not mandatory, the following experience is considered an advantage: Familiarity with energy policy or sustainability transitions Understanding of India’s energy or environmental policy landscape Experience analysing technical or regulatory documentation Interest in IT sector sustainability and decarbonisation challenges Work Environment and Expectations This is a fully remote role based in India, offering flexibility while requiring strong self-management and discipline.
