About the Global Energy Transition Initiative The Global Energy Transition Initiative (GETI) is a joint partnership between Bloomberg Philanthropies and ClimateWorks Foundation. Its mission is to accelerate the shift from coal to clean energy in alignment with the global 1.5°C climate pathway. Since its launch in 2017, the initiative has supported partners in over 30 emerging and developing countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, addressing economic, political, and technical challenges to advance the clean energy transition. The initiative focuses on: Developing country-specific coal phase-out strategies. Strengthening policy frameworks to attract clean energy investments. Enabling local partners to implement inclusive and just energy transitions. Scaling international and regional collaboration to eliminate new coal pipelines. Position Summary The Program Associate will provide strategic and operational support to the GETI team, a group of professionals engaged in climate mitigation and energy transition projects across multiple time zones. The role is suited to an individual with strong analytical, organizational, and partnership-building skills, who can work independently in a fast-paced, international environment. Key Responsibilities Support the Senior Director in coordinating team operations and managing grantmaking activities across 32 countries. Collaborate with the grants and programs teams to track, monitor, and manage program budgets, ensuring timely completion of projects. Assist in monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) activities, tracking key performance indicators and outcomes across global programs. Conduct research and analysis to inform strategic decision-making and program development. Identify and build relationships with potential grantees and partners. Support the organization and execution of virtual and in-person convenings and events. Draft reports, briefing materials, and communications for internal and external stakeholders. Contribute to the production of knowledge products that highlight program results and lessons learned. Represent ClimateWorks in specific focus areas, contributing subject-matter expertise over time. Required Qualifications Minimum five years of professional experience in climate mitigation, energy transitions, or related fields in emerging markets or developing economies. Bachelor’s degree in public policy, economics, business administration, or a related field (advanced degree preferred). Strong understanding of the political, financial, and civil society dynamics driving power sector decarbonization. Proven project management experience, including online research, data analysis, and use of tools such as Salesforce and Asana. Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in multicultural settings. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles. Experience in event coordination and facilitation of international convenings. Willingness to travel and collaborate across time zones. Preferred Qualifications Experience with international partners or philanthropic and environmental organizations. Background in electrical engineering, power system modeling, or policy advisory. Familiarity with climate finance and policy advocacy. Work or lived experience in the Global South. Compensation and Benefits ClimateWorks Foundation offers a competitive and equitable compensation package, with salary ranges based on local cost of labor: Bay Area / NYC: $75,000 – $80,000 annually Other U.S. regions: $70,000 – $75,000 annually International: Salary aligned with local labor market conditions The foundation provides comprehensive benefits, professional development opportunities, and a supportive, mission-driven work environment.
