Researchers, academics, policymakers, and development practitioners are invited to submit papers for the highly anticipated CSAE Conference 2027, one of the leading international gatherings focused on African development and economics. Organized by the Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE) at University of Oxford, the conference will take place from 21–23 March 2027 at St Catherine’s College in Oxford, United Kingdom. The annual event brings together scholars and experts from across the global development economics community to share research findings, discuss policy challenges, and explore solutions for Africa’s economic and social development. Conference to Focus on Development and Economic Issues in Africa The CSAE Conference has established itself as one of the most influential forums for presenting cutting-edge research on Africa’s development challenges and opportunities. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with leading economists, researchers, policymakers, and development organizations working across a wide range of topics, including: Economic growth and development Poverty reduction strategies Education and human capital Health and public policy Governance and institutions Labor markets and employment Climate change and sustainability Trade and industrialization Gender and social inclusion The conference serves as a platform for evidence-based discussions aimed at informing policy and advancing development outcomes across the continent. Submission Deadlines Announced Organizers have announced two important deadlines for prospective presenters. Researchers seeking financial support to attend the conference must submit their papers by: 9 August 2026 – Submission deadline with funding application Authors who do not require funding support have until: 13 September 2026 – General paper submission deadline Early submissions are encouraged, particularly for applicants seeking travel funding. Funding Available for African Researchers A key feature of the CSAE Conference 2027 is its commitment to supporting participation from African-based scholars. Funding is available to assist African speakers traveling from institutions across the continent to attend the conference in Oxford. The initiative aims to strengthen representation from African researchers and ensure that diverse perspectives contribute to discussions on development and economic policy. Eligible participants selected for funding will receive support to attend the conference and engage with international research networks. Additional Opportunity Through AERC Workshop Funded conference speakers will also be invited to participate in the CSAE Economic Development in Africa Workshop, scheduled for December 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya. The workshop will be hosted by the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), a leading institution dedicated to advancing economic research and policy capacity across Africa. This additional engagement offers researchers an opportunity to: Present and refine their work before the conference Receive feedback from senior scholars Expand professional networks Strengthen collaborative research partnerships Engage with development policy discussions relevant to Africa Strengthening Research Collaboration Across Continents The CSAE Conference continues to play a significant role in connecting researchers from Africa, Europe, North America, and other regions.
