Location: Mombasa, KenyaContract: 18 months (renewable) DanChurchAid (DCA) is seeking a motivated and dynamic Project Assistant – Financial Inclusion to support the implementation of youth resilience and livelihoods interventions in Kilifi County. The role is part of a youth-focused programme aimed at strengthening inclusive livelihood pathways, improving access to skills and finance, and reducing drivers of youth radicalisation along Kenya’s coast. The position is based in Mombasa and reports to the Head of Programme in Nairobi, with close day-to-day collaboration with DCA’s implementing partner, Coastal and Marine Resource Development (COMRED). The Project Assistant will play a hands-on role in activity delivery, coordination, stakeholder engagement, monitoring, and reporting, working directly with youth groups, community institutions, and local partners. Organisational Background DanChurchAid is an international humanitarian and development organisation working with vulnerable communities to enhance peace, livelihoods, and resilience. In Kenya, DCA operates in multiple counties, including Kilifi, Nairobi, Turkana, West Pokot, and Nakuru, implementing programmes directly and through trusted local partners. In Kilifi County, DCA is implementing a youth resilience and livelihoods programme designed to address socio-economic exclusion and prevent radicalisation. The programme focuses on: Inclusive skills development Financial inclusion and access to markets Strengthening community institutions such as Beach Management Units (BMUs) Promoting social cohesion and positive youth engagement COMRED leads day-to-day community implementation, while DCA provides strategic oversight, technical guidance, donor stewardship, and quality assurance. Purpose of the Role The Project Assistant – Financial Inclusion will support effective delivery of project activities by: Coordinating with partners and stakeholders Supporting youth livelihoods, skills development, and financial inclusion components Monitoring implementation progress and documenting results Strengthening youth participation in local governance and community structures The role contributes directly to improving youth economic resilience and social inclusion within coastal and Blue Economy contexts. Key Responsibilities 1. Project Implementation and Partner Support Support implementing partners and community institutions, including BMUs, youth groups, and special interest groups, in delivering project activities aligned with approved workplans. Assist in mobilising and engaging vulnerable youth, with a strong focus on young women and marginalised groups. Support coordination of trainings, mentorship sessions, apprenticeships, innovation challenges, and community forums. Conduct routine follow-up on activities and flag implementation challenges and risks to the Head of Programme. 2. Livelihoods, Skills, and Financial Inclusion Support delivery of youth skills development, life skills, and livelihoods interventions linked to fisheries, tourism, and Blue Economy value chains. Assist youth groups and enterprises to access savings mechanisms, SACCOs, microfinance institutions, and market actors. Facilitate innovation challenges, seed grant processes, and early-stage enterprise mentoring in collaboration with partners. Promote good practices in financial literacy, transparent group governance, and responsible use of grants and revolving funds. 3. Social Cohesion and Community Engagement Support social cohesion and peacebuilding activities, including youth dialogues, arts-based initiatives, and community events. Assist engagement with religious leaders, local authorities, and community influencers to promote positive youth narratives and counter extremist messaging. Support youth-led initiatives that integrate conservation, livelihoods, and peacebuilding. 4. Monitoring, Learning, and Reporting Support routine data collection, activity documentation, and tracking of outputs and outcomes. Contribute narrative inputs to donor reports, learning briefs, and internal updates. Participate in reflection meetings and learning sessions to strengthen adaptive management and evidence-based programming. 5. Coordination and Representation Liaise with county government departments, TVET institutions, private sector actors, and other stakeholders. Represent DCA in community-level meetings when required. Ensure clear communication of DCA’s role within the partnership framework. Required Qualifications and Experience Diploma or degree in social sciences, development studies, business, natural resource management, or a related field. A minimum of three years’ experience working on youth livelihoods, skills development, or community-based programmes. Experience in coastal or Blue Economy contexts such as fisheries, tourism, or conservation is a strong advantage. Proven experience working with local partners and community institutions. Experience providing financial education, business mentorship, or coaching to young entrepreneurs. Strong coordination, communication, and documentation skills. Ability to work sensitively with vulnerable youth in complex social environments. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a multi-stakeholder setting. Self-driven, results-oriented, and able to work in challenging rural or refugee-adjacent contexts.
