Overview EFAC, a non-profit organisation based in Nairobi, Kenya, provides an education-to-employment pathway for academically gifted but economically disadvantaged youth. Through its leadership-focused model, the organisation equips young people with the skills, opportunities and networks needed to meaningfully contribute to social and economic progress. To support this mission, EFAC seeks a Communications Officer who will play a central role in advancing the organisation’s visibility, storytelling, and stakeholder engagement efforts. The position is full-time and office-based, reporting to the Communications Manager. ABOUT THE ROLE The Communications Officer serves as a creative, technical and strategic resource within EFAC’s Communications team. The role supports the delivery of EFAC’s communications strategy while offering day-to-day assistance to the Programmes and Development teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality multimedia content that communicates EFAC’s mission, values and impact. This includes video production, photography, graphic design, and digital communications tailored to diverse audiences such as donors, sponsors, partners, scholars and alumni. Given EFAC’s broad audience landscape—ranging from Gen Alpha scholars to long-term donor partners—the Officer must demonstrate cultural agility, strong storytelling skills and the ability to translate field insights into compelling digital and print materials. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Multimedia Content Creation & Production The Officer will lead the planning and production of creative assets aligned with EFAC’s brand and communications goals. Core tasks include: Producing and editing high-quality videos and photography. Designing creative visual materials for social media, campaigns and publications. Capturing field stories that showcase programme impact and alumni achievements. Ensuring content is optimised for various channels and audiences. Social Media Management The role includes managing EFAC’s social media presence across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn. Responsibilities include: Developing platform-specific content calendars. Monitoring engagement analytics and audience trends. Growing EFAC’s digital community through data-driven strategies. Managing social media scheduling tools and evaluating campaign performance. Web Management The Officer will support content updates on EFAC’s website, ensuring accuracy, quality and alignment with brand guidelines. Responsibilities include: Updating web pages using CMS platforms such as WordPress or Squarespace. Managing visual elements, photography, event updates and programme stories. Supporting SEO, analytics monitoring and user engagement improvements. Brand Messaging and Strategy Participation Working with the Communications Manager, the Officer will: Contribute to the refinement of EFAC’s brand voice and messaging. Collaborate in brainstorming sessions and campaign planning. Ensure all creative outputs reflect EFAC’s identity and values. Event Planning and Management The Officer will assist in planning, documenting and promoting EFAC events. This includes: Coordinating logistics in collaboration with programme teams. Producing event materials, photography, and post-event summaries. Ensuring brand consistency across event communications. Campaign Development A key responsibility is supporting strategic partnerships and fundraising communications through: Designing and executing targeted campaigns. Producing donor-centric stories, visuals and digital materials. Assisting in crafting compelling narratives for appeals and collaborations. Publications and Internal Communications The Officer contributes to content development for: Newsletters, magazines, annual reports and impact stories. Internal communications materials that strengthen organisational cohesion. Donor reports and stakeholder updates that require high-quality design and imagery. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS Candidates must demonstrate proficiency with: Adobe Creative Cloud Suite: Premiere Pro, Audition, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. Canva for rapid content and template-based design. Social media scheduling and analytics tools such as Hootsuite. Google Analytics for tracking engagement and digital performance. Email marketing tools such as Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor. Website CMS platforms including WordPress or Squarespace. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, Film or Multimedia Production, or a related discipline. Additional certifications in digital marketing, photography, videography, graphic design or web design are an added advantage. PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS Essential qualifications include: Minimum three years of progressive experience in a media, communications or non-profit environment. Proven multimedia production experience and a strong creative portfolio. Strong writing, editing and storytelling capabilities. Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms and campaigns. Understanding of emerging digital trends relevant to youth-centric content. Ability to deliver high-quality creative outputs under tight timelines.
