globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

January 8, 2026

Description

Energise Africa – A Leading Impact Investment Platform for SMEs Energise Africa is excited to invite applications for the position of Senior Investment Manager, a pivotal role that will help steer capital toward high-impact energy solutions across Sub-Saharan Africa. This is a unique opportunity for a finance professional with sharp analytical expertise, deep sector knowledge, and a commitment to driving social and environmental progress. If you are passionate about using investment as a force for good and want to help scale clean energy access, this role offers the ideal platform. About Energise Africa Energise Africa is a UK-based impact investment platform that has, since 2018, mobilised over $60 million in debt funding for impactful organisations across 18 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. We enable energy-access companies to raise competitively priced debt by issuing bonds through our platform, which are marketed to individual UK investors. These companies—spanning solar home system distribution, mini-grid development, clean cooking, electric mobility and more—typically raise $1–3 million in debt repayable over 1–4 years. Our investment team is central to our mission. We rigorously assess every potential issuer through detailed financial, legal, technical, commercial and ESG due diligence. We work with businesses that deliver measurable impact alongside strong commercial fundamentals. Our goal is simple: help innovative African SMEs access the capital they need to scale life-changing energy solutions, while offering fair, transparent returns to individual investors. About the Role The Senior Investment Manager will lead investment origination, due diligence, deal structuring, and ongoing investment management for a diverse portfolio of energy-access companies. Based in West Africa with a home-office arrangement, the role includes regular regional travel and occasional visits to the UK. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will serve as a key decision-maker in shaping investment strategy, assessing opportunities, and safeguarding investor capital. This is a multi-faceted role requiring a rare blend of financial sophistication, renewable-energy insight, risk management expertise, and relationship-building skills. It is ideal for someone who thrives in a mission-driven, entrepreneurial environment and is motivated by measurable impact. Key Responsibilities Investment Appraisal Review and assess pre-qualification data from potential investees. Lead due diligence processes—including financial modelling, legal review, commercial assessment, technical evaluation, and ESG analysis. Negotiate and structure deals, incorporating covenants, security, and asset-coverage measures to manage risk. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients throughout the investment process. Present clear, evidence-based recommendations to the Investment Committee. Investment Management Oversee regular monitoring of financial and non-financial covenants to ensure performance and proactively mitigate risk. Produce detailed, transparent reports on investment performance. Maintain strong, supportive relationships with investees and liaise with co-lenders and finance partners. Contribute to refining and strengthening internal investment processes. Strategic Partnerships Develop and maintain relationships with match funders, co-investors, and key industry organisations to expand Energise Africa’s reach and impact. External Representation Represent Energise Africa at events, conferences, and webinars. Strengthen market presence and cultivate partnerships with external stakeholders. Skills, Experience & Personal Qualities Required Skills & Experience Advanced financial knowledge and the ability to critically assess complex financial models (accounting or equivalent qualification essential). Strong analytical and commercial judgement. Experience in the renewable energy ecosystem in Africa. Familiarity with debt instruments, deal structuring, and security arrangements. Excellent written and spoken English. Key Characteristics Self-motivated, results-driven, and reliable. Comfortable with detail but able to maintain a strategic, big-picture perspective. Committed to risk management and investor protection. Thrives in a collaborative, fast-moving, remote-working environment. Creative, solutions-oriented, and entrepreneurial in mindset. Energise Africa is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We believe that drawing talent from different backgrounds strengthens our work and deepens our impact. If you care deeply about using finance to drive meaningful social and environmental progress, we want to hear from you.
