The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is inviting young, talented individuals to apply for the Internship Programme for Africa (RAF). This program offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience, contribute to FAO’s mission, and support global efforts to achieve food security, sustainable agriculture, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Position Details: Organization: FAO – Regional Office for Africa (RAF) Job Type: Internship Duration: 3 to 11 months Location: Various locations across Africa Posting Date: 20 September 2025 Closing Date: 1 January 2026 Eligibility Criteria FAO is seeking candidates who are highly motivated and academically qualified in fields relevant to its mandate, including agriculture, nutrition, food security, environment, economics, and related areas. Applicants must: Be enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate degree program recognized by the World Higher Education Database (WHED). Be aged 21–30 years at the time of application. Be national of an FAO member country. Have a working knowledge of at least one FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish); knowledge of a second language is advantageous. Demonstrate the ability to adapt to international multicultural environments and possess strong communication skills. FAO strongly encourages applications from: Female candidates Nationals of underrepresented or non-member countries Candidates from Low-Income Food-Deficit Countries (LIFDCs), Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Internship Objectives The internship aims to: Provide a platform to apply academic knowledge in a real-world international setting. Enable interns to contribute to FAO’s strategic framework and SDGs through improved agri-food systems, better production, enhanced nutrition, environmental sustainability, and equitable access to resources. Build practical skills, global perspectives, and professional networks in areas relevant to FAO’s work. Interns will perform duties as outlined in a Terms of Reference (TOR) provided by the assigned supervisor. Tasks are tailored according to the candidate’s academic background and organizational needs. Core Competencies Interns are expected to demonstrate FAO’s core competencies, including: Results Focus: Achieving objectives effectively and efficiently. Teamwork: Collaborating and supporting colleagues. Communication: Expressing ideas clearly and effectively. Building Relationships: Establishing productive partnerships. Knowledge Sharing & Continuous Improvement: Contributing ideas, learning, and improving processes. Additional Information No fees are charged for applying or during the recruitment process. Interns must have appropriate residence or immigration status in the host country before joining. Individuals who have previously completed an FAO internship are not eligible. Interns with family members employed at FAO are ineligible. FAO provides a monthly stipend for interns who are not sponsored by a university or other entity.
