The Spanish Society of Neuroscience (SENC) and the Portuguese Society for Neuroscience (SPN), in collaboration with the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) and the IBRO Pan European Regional Committee (PERC), have announced the opening of applications for the Early Career Training Programme (ECTP) ahead of the FENS Forum 2026 in Barcelona. The programme provides early career researchers with the opportunity to undertake a 2–3 week research stay in a host laboratory in Spain or Portugal before the Forum. Participants will gain hands-on experience, learn new techniques, engage with researchers at different career stages, and expand their international networks. Programme Highlights Selected participants will receive: A EUR 1000 stipend to cover travel within the host country and other visit-related expenses. Access to short-term research projects in laboratories across Spain and Portugal. Opportunities to collaborate with established researchers and develop professional skills. Exposure to new methodologies and advanced neuroscience techniques. The programme aims to strengthen scientific training, foster collaboration, and encourage career development for emerging neuroscientists. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must meet the following requirements: Early Career Researchers: Candidates include postgraduate students (MSc, MD, PhD) or clinical trainees. Proof of enrolment or official documentation is required. Postdoctoral/Clinical Researchers: Individuals within five years of completing their highest degree or starting work as a clinical psychologist are eligible. Extensions are allowed for maternity leave or other justifiable absences. Non-resident in Host Country: Applicants should not currently work in a laboratory in Spain or Portugal. Citizens of these countries may apply if they have been working outside the host nations for at least 18 months. FENS Forum Registration: Applicants must be registered for FENS Forum 2026. First Author Abstract: Submission of a first-author abstract to the FENS Forum is mandatory. Stipend Limit: Each applicant can receive only one stipend for FENS activities per year, either a FENS Forum travel grant or an ECTP stipend. Application Process Interested candidates must submit the online application form and provide: Proof of Early Career Researcher Status: Official enrolment documentation or a copy of the diploma. Documents must indicate applicant name, institution, and enrolment or graduation status. First-Author Abstract: Confirmation of abstract submission to the FENS Forum 2026. Curriculum Vitae: A CV of up to two pages outlining education, research projects, techniques, publications, and other relevant information. Recommendation Letter: A letter from the current supervisor (maximum 250 words) indicating the applicant’s name, affiliation, and contact details. Applicants are encouraged to review laboratory profiles to identify placements that align with their research interests. Key Deadlines The application deadline is 27 January 2026. Selected participants will be notified following the review of applications.
