FG Inaugurates Committee to Train One Million Nigerians in Digital Skills The Federal Government has inaugurated a Joint Implementation Committee to oversee the training and certification of one million Nigerians in digital literacy and emerging technology skills, as part of efforts to achieve 95 per cent digital literacy by 2030. The committee was inaugurated on Tuesday in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Ibrahim Kana. Speaking at the event, Akume described the inauguration as a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening human capital development and advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda. He said the initiative aligns with key national policies, including the Digital Transformation Agenda, the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. Northern Nigerian jobs According to Akume, the programme is targeted at equipping Nigerians with relevant digital skills needed for workforce readiness, innovation, and inclusive economic growth, with special focus on youths, women, underserved communities, and persons with disabilities. “This inauguration represents a deliberate and strategic effort by the Federal Government to deepen national digital literacy and promote inclusive digital transformation in line with national development priorities,” he said. He added that the committee would also be responsible for planning and organising a National Digital Literacy Conference, which will serve as a platform for stakeholder engagement and collaboration in driving digital skills development across the country. Akume clarified that while the programme aligns with federal policy direction and receives coordination support from government institutions, it is fully funded and implemented by Clergywealth Cooperative Society Limited. He noted that the initiative supports key resolutions reached at the 13th National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (NCCIDE) meeting held in December 2025, including the adoption of the Future Proof Economy (FPE) Model as the national framework for digital literacy delivery. He outlined the committee’s Terms of Reference, which include providing strategic oversight for the nationwide rollout of digital literacy and emerging technology training; ensuring alignment with national policies and presidential directives; and coordinating engagements with relevant ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), state governments, the Federal Capital Territory, private sector partners, academia, development partners, and civil society organisations. Other responsibilities include establishing monitoring, evaluation, and reporting mechanisms to track progress, ensure quality assurance, and measure the impact of the training and certification programme. The committee is also expected to document lessons learned and best practices to support sustainability and potential scale-up beyond the initial one million beneficiaries. Members of the Joint Implementation Committee were drawn from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, TETFund, NITDA, state representatives, ICT professionals, and civil society organisations.
