Overview of the Position Fight Inequality Alliance (FIA), a global grassroots movement dedicated to challenging the concentration of wealth and power, is recruiting a Communications and Media Lead. This one-year remote position, reporting to the Head of Secretariat, plays a central role in delivering FIA’s 2023–2033 roadmap, which aims to build the most influential global movement confronting inequality. The role leads FIA’s global communication strategy, drives online engagement, and amplifies narratives that shape public discourse and influence systems change. About Fight Inequality Alliance FIA mobilises people on the frontlines of inequality to challenge systems that disproportionately benefit the top 1%. The alliance focuses on building people-powered alternatives to neoliberal structures, promoting justice, equality, and sustainability. Its work is grounded in core values including feminist leadership, anti-discrimination, solidarity, and accountability to oppressed communities. The Communications and Media Lead supports this mission by strengthening FIA’s storytelling, visibility, and global engagement. Purpose of the Role The Communications and Media Lead is responsible for designing, executing, and supervising FIA’s global communications strategy across digital and traditional media platforms. The role ensures alignment with organisational targets, including the goal of engaging 10 million people online by 2026. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the officer provides strategic guidance, oversees communication outputs, and ensures that FIA’s messaging is powerful, coherent, and values-driven. Key Responsibilities Strategic Communication Leadership The Communications and Media Lead provides direction for all communication efforts, including: Designing and implementing FIA’s global communications strategy Developing core narratives aligned with FIA’s mission and advocacy goals Ensuring communication priorities are responsive to global political and social contexts Leading communication efforts for major events and strategic initiatives Digital Engagement and Media Visibility The officer strengthens FIA’s presence across digital and media platforms through: Managing the organisation’s website, social media channels, and email marketing Overseeing digital engagement targets and growth strategies Analysing digital performance data and generating insights for improvement Cultivating relationships with journalists, media outlets, influencers, and storytellers Securing positive media coverage that elevates FIA’s visibility Content Leadership and Storytelling The position involves shaping FIA’s narrative through powerful storytelling. Key tasks include: Identifying and curating stories of change from across the movement Overseeing the creation of multimedia content for various platforms Ensuring editorial quality and consistency in all public communications Training and enabling spokespeople to effectively represent FIA in media settings Internal Collaboration and Capacity Building The Communications and Media Lead works closely with teams across the alliance to ensure alignment and shared purpose. Responsibilities include: Supporting mobilisation teams in crafting public narratives for online and offline activism Developing internal communication systems that keep staff and members well-informed Building communication capacity across regions through training and coaching Coordinating with networks, coalitions, and partners to maintain coherent messaging Crisis Communications and Risk Management The role provides leadership during high-pressure situations and ensures reputational protection by: Applying crisis communication protocols Managing sensitive information and guiding response strategies Ensuring transparent and timely communication during emergencies Required Qualifications and Experience The ideal candidate will bring extensive communication expertise, including: Minimum 10 years’ experience in communications, public relations, or media relations Proven track record designing and executing impactful communication strategies At least 4 years’ experience leading multi-disciplinary, multi-regional teams Experience securing media coverage and building strong journalist relationships High proficiency in digital communications, including CMS, email platforms, and analytics tools Experience working in international or non-profit contexts Strong editorial judgement and familiarity with advocacy and campaign strategies Essential Competencies and Values Candidates must demonstrate: Excellent leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal skills Ability to influence without relying on positional authority Strong organisational and time-management abilities Knowledge of global inequality debates, political contexts, and international institutions Understanding of digital mobilisation at scale Commitment to FIA’s core values, including: Feminist leadership and behaviour Anti-discrimination and solidarity with oppressed communities Grassroots organising and accountability Fluency in English; additional language proficiency is an advantage Ability to travel as required and work in fast-paced environments Why Join Fight Inequality Alliance FIA offers professionals an opportunity to contribute to a transformative global movement.
