The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has opened a Call for Expressions of Interest for a Junior Communication Specialist under Vacancy Announcement 2600443. The Office for Corporate Communication (OCC) leads FAO’s internal and external communication strategy, ensuring consistency, coherence, and cost-effective messaging across the organization. Role Overview: Junior Communication Specialist The Junior Communication Specialist will support FAO’s Office for Corporate Communication across multiple communication streams. The role is suited for candidates with experience in: Public communication Advocacy and storytelling Journalism and editorial writing Digital and social media content Multimedia production Profiles may align with one or more of the following areas: General communications Editorial and writing Multimedia production Digital, web, and social media The selected candidate will report to a Communication Officer within OCC. Key Responsibilities The Junior Communication Specialist will: Content Research & Development Research and analyze FAO technical materials Summarize complex information for general audiences Draft key messages and scripts Conduct photo and media research Writing & Editing Draft articles, feature stories, newsletters, announcements, and talking points Develop scripts and content for digital campaigns Write captions and keyword metadata Multimedia & Digital Content Contribute to graphics, videos, animations, podcasts, and campaigns Support website and newsletter content management Assist with social media account management Coordination & Stakeholder Support Facilitate cross-team communication Support media monitoring and stakeholder analysis Provide guidance on OCC processes and standards Backstop communication officers during absences All materials must adhere to FAO’s communication standards, branding policies, and clearance procedures. Minimum Requirements For Consultants: Advanced university degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Videography, or related field OR a Bachelor’s degree plus two additional years of relevant experience For PSA Contracts: University degree in a relevant field Experience & Language: At least 1 year of relevant experience Working knowledge (Level C) of English Academic credentials must be recognized by institutions listed in the World Higher Education Database (WHED) maintained by IAU/UNESCO.
