The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative is seeking an experienced Asia Campaigner to support the growth and coordination of its campaign across the Asian region. This full-time consultancy offers an opportunity to contribute directly to one of the most ambitious global climate initiatives focused on ending the expansion of fossil fuels and enabling a just and equitable transition. The consultancy runs from January to June 2026, with the possibility of extension. The role is remote, with a preference for candidates based in Southeast Asia, and includes some regional and international travel to participate in key meetings and events. The position offers a monthly compensation of USD 3,500–4,000, depending on experience, in line with the Initiative’s compensation framework. Organisational Background The world’s largest fossil fuel producers are currently on track to extract more than twice the amount of coal, oil, and gas that can ever be safely burned if global climate targets are to be met. This trajectory poses a fundamental threat to climate stability, public health, and global equity. The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative is a global campaign and diplomatic effort advocating for a new international mechanism to complement the Paris Agreement. The proposed Treaty aims to address the structural barriers to climate action by: Ending the expansion of fossil fuel production Managing a fair and equitable phase-out of existing fossil fuel infrastructure Accelerating a just transition to renewable energy systems Equity, climate justice, and global cooperation are central to the Initiative’s approach. Role Overview Reporting to the Strategic Advisor and Head of Asia Campaigns & Advocacy, the Asia Campaigner will play a central role in scaling the Fossil Fuel Treaty campaign across Asia. The position is well-suited to an experienced campaigner seeking to work at the intersection of diplomacy, advocacy, communications, and network-building. The Asia Campaigner will join the Initiative’s International Support Team and work closely with the Campaigns and Communications teams. The role focuses on supporting and coordinating efforts to encourage Asian governments and nation-states to formally champion the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty and publicly call for a global, just transition away from fossil fuels. Key Responsibilities Working in close collaboration with the Strategic Advisor, the Head of Asia Campaigns & Advocacy, and the wider team, the Asia Campaigner will be responsible for the following: Campaign Strategy and Regional Coordination Supporting the scaling and strategic growth of the Fossil Fuel Treaty campaign across Asia Contributing to regional campaign planning and implementation aligned with global objectives Policy Advocacy and Diplomatic Engagement Supporting advocacy with policymakers and nation-states across Asia Engaging diplomatically with governments and public institutions Preparing briefing materials, talking points, and policy briefs to support high-level engagement Events and Project Coordination Coordinating project and event logistics around key regional moments in Asia Supporting Asian partners’ participation in major regional and global events, conferences, and convenings Network Building and Movement Engagement Strengthening relationships with civil society organisations and movements across Asia Expanding and activating networks that include: Indigenous communities Youth movements Faith-based institutions Artists and cultural leaders Health sector advocates Supporting sustained engagement and coordination across these constituencies Endorsements and Champions Securing endorsements from cities and subnational governments across Asia Expanding and activating a network of Asian Champions and high-profile individuals to amplify campaign messaging Communications and Public Engagement Supporting public communications efforts that demonstrate growing regional support for the Treaty Collaborating closely with the Communications Team on: Social media engagement Content production Traditional media strategy Resource Mobilisation Supporting grant applications and fundraising efforts to strengthen campaign capacity in Asia Assisting in building the capacity of partner organisations and regional campaign activities Preferred Experience and Attributes The ideal candidate will bring the following experience and capabilities: At least five years of professional campaigning experience in Asia Demonstrated experience in: Diplomacy Government relations Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities Capacity to work at pace and adapt in a fast-moving campaign environment Fluency in English, with proficiency in one or more additional Asian languages considered an asset Strong commitment to working across cultures and differences, grounded in a decolonial perspective Desired Experience The following experience is considered advantageous: Event planning and management Experience working with climate-focused or non-profit organisations Contract Details Contract type: Full-time consultancy Duration: January–June 2026, with possible extension Location: Remote in Asia, with some travel Compensation: USD 3,500–4,000 per month, depending on experience Application Process Interested candidates are encouraged to apply through the official application platform.
