The Department of Sociology at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for an 18-month postdoctoral position in computational social science focused on Global North-South disparities in science. The position will start on 1 April 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The postdoc will work closely with Associate Professor Mathias Wullum Nielsen and Assistant Professor Andrew C. Herman on a research project examining mechanisms driving North-South disparities in science, with an emphasis on: Power dynamics in international research collaborations Impacts of researcher migration on Global South research capacity Disparities in the uptake of scientific knowledge across global regions Responsibilities Conduct computational and quantitative research using large-scale data, surveys, and experiments. Collaborate in a small research team with weekly meetings. Contribute to publications as first author and co-author. Perform limited research administration and teaching duties. This position is ideal for researchers interested in power relations, inequality, and knowledge production in the global scientific enterprise using computational social-science methods. Department The Department of Sociology is one of Europe’s leading sociology departments, offering a broad range of research topics, theories, and methods. With around 30 faculty members and 20 postdocs and PhD students, the department emphasizes research excellence and collaboration. The department is located in the heart of Copenhagen, sharing a campus with Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, and the Center for Social Data Science (SODAS). Qualifications PhD in sociology, economics, political science, management, network and data science, or related fields. Strong statistical skills and experience managing large datasets and relational databases. Proficiency in scientific scripting languages (e.g., R or Python) is preferred. Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken. Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality social-science research. Salary and Employment Terms Salary starts at DKK 39,237/month (≈ EUR 5,253) plus 18.07% pension contribution. Additional supplements may be negotiated. International researchers may be eligible for a pension exemption under Danish schemes. Special tax schemes are available for international recruits.
