The Environmental Peacebuilding Association (EnPAx) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2026 Conference Fellows Program, a unique professional development opportunity for students, early career researchers, and emerging practitioners in environmental peacebuilding. The program provides both capacity development and financial support for Fellows to participate in the Fourth International Conference on Environmental Peacebuilding, to be held in Ottawa, Canada, in June 2026. Through a combination of online learning, hands-on training, and immersive networking experiences, the 2026 Fellows will join a global community of scholars and practitioners dedicated to advancing peace and sustainability through environmental action. About the EnPAx Conference Fellows Program The Conference Fellows Program reflects EnPAx’s ongoing commitment to equitable access and inclusion in the growing field of environmental peacebuilding. By supporting participation from under-represented and under-resourced communities, the program aims to strengthen the diversity, depth, and innovation of global environmental peacebuilding practice. Each year, the program invests in building the next generation of leaders through: Online capacity-building roundtables and workshops exploring core themes and emerging issues in environmental peacebuilding; An in-person, hands-on training on project management and community organizing for peace and environmental sustainability; and Mentored publication opportunities, where Fellows develop and share their research through short, policy-relevant articles. The 2026 cohort will be a key feature of the Fourth International Conference on Environmental Peacebuilding, co-hosted by EnPAx and the University of Ottawa, where Fellows will be spotlighted in the program, receive specialized networking support, and take part in exclusive conference and side events. Program Components 1. Online Community Building and Skills Development (January – July 2026) Before arriving in Ottawa, Fellows will engage in a rich series of virtual sessions designed to build knowledge, foster collaboration, and strengthen professional networks. These interactive online workshops will include: MonthSession FocusJanuaryLaunch Event – Overview of Environmental PeacebuildingFebruaryRoundtable Q&A with a High-Profile ScholarMarchCase Study Workshop – Insights from Local ProjectsAprilInternal Dialogue – Fellows Identify Themes of Focal InterestMaySkills Workshop – Writing and Publishing for Policy AudiencesJulyInternal Dialogue – Publication Preparation and Program Debrief These sessions are designed to accommodate participants across time zones and will be recorded where possible to support flexibility and accessibility. 2. In-Person Training Intensive (June 2026, University of Ottawa) In June 2026, Fellows will gather in Ottawa for an immersive, week-long training focused on community organizing, project design, and management for environmental peacebuilding. The training will feature a blend of lectures, interactive exercises, and experiential learning opportunities with practitioners and community leaders. Fellows will develop applied skills in: Conflict and political economy analysis Participatory research methods Inclusive project planning and management Nature-based and community-led peacebuilding strategies Monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) for peacebuilding interventions Indicative Schedule (Subject to Refinement): June 11–20, 2026 – University of Ottawa, Canada June 11: Fellows arrive in Ottawa; Welcome Dinner June 12–14: Core Training Modules (Conflict analysis, participatory methods, adaptive management, inclusive M&E) June 15–16: Pre-conference activities and site visits (including cultural exchanges, volunteering, and Indigenous-led workshops) June 17–19: Participation in the Fourth International Conference on Environmental Peacebuilding, including Fellows’ poster presentations, networking events, and artistic showcases June 20: Fellows depart Ottawa Mentored Publication Opportunity As part of the program’s emphasis on policy impact, each Fellow will research and author a short, policy-relevant article under the guidance of senior experts and mentors. These articles will be published through the EnPAx network, contributing to global dialogue on innovative practices in environmental peacebuilding. Eligibility Criteria To be considered for the 2026 EnPAx Conference Fellowship, applicants must: Be an emerging professional (student, early career researcher, or entry-level practitioner) with a demonstrated interest in environmental peacebuilding. Hold a valid passport and be able to travel to Canada in June 2026. (EnPAx and the University of Ottawa will support visa applications, but Fellows must be able to secure a visa and attend in person.) Commit to full participation in the in-person training and conference events from 12–19 June 2026, which will involve approximately 12 hours of engagement per day (with appropriate breaks). Be willing to conduct a short follow-up activity or reflection in July 2026. EnPAx strongly encourages applications from individuals and communities traditionally underrepresented in environmental peacebuilding, including applicants from the Global South, Indigenous communities, and women in science and policy.
