Researchers seeking postdoctoral opportunities in economic history can apply for two three-year postdoctoral research fellowships at Linköping University in Sweden. Funded by the Högbom-Cocozza Foundation, the fellowships support early-career researchers undertaking research across the broad field of economic history. The opportunity is hosted by the Division of Economics within the Department of Management and Engineering (IEI) at Linköping University. Successful fellows will be expected to conduct their research at the university’s Campus Valla and be resident and registered as living in the Municipality of Linköping during the fellowship period. The fellowships provide a tax-free stipend of SEK 1,965,000 for each three-year period, paid directly to the fellow in semi-annual instalments in advance. Two Postdoctoral Fellowships in Economic History The Högbom-Cocozza Foundation is funding two fellowships intended to contribute to the development of a strong research environment in economic history at Linköping University while supporting early-career researchers with high scientific potential. The fellowships cover three years of full-time research, with a planned start in mid-2027 or by agreement. Economic history is broadly defined for the purposes of the fellowships and encompasses research into how economies and material living conditions have developed over the long term. Research may also examine interactions between economic processes, institutions, technology, politics and society. The programme welcomes both established and emerging approaches to economic history research. Research Areas Applicants may propose research projects addressing any aspect of economic history. Potential areas include: Economic growth and development Living standards and inequality Labour Demography Trade and globalisation Institutions and the state Technology and innovation Entrepreneurship and business Projects using quantitative methods and historical databases, register data or other historical sources are particularly encouraged. However, applicants using qualitative or mixed-method approaches are also welcome to apply. This broad scope allows researchers from several closely related disciplines to develop proposals connected to economic history. Fellowship Benefits Each successful fellow will receive a tax-free stipend totalling SEK 1,965,000 over three years. The stipend is paid semi-annually in advance directly to the fellow and is intended to cover: Living expenses Personal insurance, including life, accident and health insurance Pension contributions The fellowship is designed for full-time research. Fellows may also undertake institutional duties, such as teaching, for up to 30% of full-time employment. Where such duties are undertaken, the fellowship period will be extended correspondingly. The planned fellowship period is three years, beginning in mid-2027 or another date agreed with the university. Eligibility Requirements The Linköping University postdoctoral fellowships are intended for researchers who are at an early stage of their academic careers. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in economic history or a closely related field. Applicants should also be prepared to conduct their research at Linköping University, Campus Valla, and to be resident and registered as living in the Municipality of Linköping during the fellowship period. Selection Process The Division of Economics will assess applications and select and nominate at least three candidates to the Högbom-Cocozza Foundation. The Foundation will make the final decision and award the two fellowships. Selection of candidates for nomination will consider their scientific merits, the quality of their research plan, and their potential contribution to the development of economic history research at Linköping University. The final fellowship decision will therefore be made by the Högbom-Cocozza Foundation following its review of the nominations.
