globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

November 8, 2026

Description

Empowering Data-Driven Governance for a Better Future The World Bank Government Analytics Fellowship is a pioneering initiative designed to unlock the potential of public sector data for smarter, more efficient governance. Launched by the World Bank Development Economics Vice-Presidency (DEC) in partnership with the Development Impact Group (DECDI), the Institutions Global Department, the Institute for Economic Development, and University College London (UCL), this fellowship serves as a unique platform for civil servants to strengthen their capacity for data-informed public administration. Despite growing access to government-held data, its application in shaping policy and driving administrative efficiency remains limited in many countries. This program directly addresses that gap by equipping public sector professionals with the tools, training, and expert support necessary to harness data for real-world impact. Program Structure The fellowship spans six months, combining intensive in-person training with ongoing in-service support. It is designed to accommodate the schedules of mid- to senior-level government officials and data practitioners. The core components include: Two weeks of full-time in-person engagement in Washington, D.C., which features participation in the Public Institutions Conference and the Government Analytics course. Development and execution of a Government Analytics project, aligned with a participant’s institutional goals and national priorities. Expert mentorship from seasoned professionals at the World Bank and UCL throughout the fellowship duration. This hybrid structure ensures that participants receive both the academic foundation and practical application skills necessary to drive change within their own institutions. Fellowship Benefits Fellows receive direct access to cutting-edge resources, global networks, and technical expertise. Key benefits include: Data-Driven Expertise: Learn how to convert vast public datasets into actionable insights that enhance decision-making, service delivery, and policy development. Institutional Transformation: Receive support to lead high-impact projects that improve the efficiency, accountability, and transparency of government operations. Global Collaboration: Join a growing community of reform-oriented professionals, academics, and data scientists dedicated to evidence-based governance. Fully Funded Participation: For applicants from Official Development Assistance (ODA)-eligible countries, the World Bank covers all major expenses associated with the in-person component—including travel, accommodation, and daily subsistence. Who Should Apply This opportunity is best suited for: Public sector professionals currently employed in national or sub-national governments. Officials engaged in areas such as policy evaluation, budgeting, service delivery, civil service reform, or digital transformation. Individuals with a demonstrated commitment to improving government operations through innovation and data analytics. Candidates with prior exposure to data analysis or program evaluation are encouraged, though extensive technical experience is not a requirement. The program welcomes applications from diverse backgrounds, recognizing the value of interdisciplinary collaboration in solving complex public sector challenges. Key Dates Application Deadline: November 16, 2026 Program Start: Dates will be communicated to selected participants Location of In-Person Training: Washington, D.C., USA All application materials and supporting documents must be submitted through the official World Bank application portal. Final selection will be based on the strength of the candidate’s profile, project proposal, and alignment with the program’s goals. Program Impact Fellows will emerge with the skills and knowledge to: Build internal capacity for evidence-based policymaking Improve institutional data governance practices Lead sustainable, scalable innovations within their home agencies Contribute to the global dialogue on good governance and development effectiveness The initiative is informed by insights from the Government Analytics Handbook, a resource developed by the World Bank to guide public institutions on best practices for integrating data into government workflows.
