NEAR is inviting applications for a Digital Communications Intern to join its fully remote team for a six-month placement beginning in 2026. The opportunity is designed for early-career communications professionals who are passionate about localisation, shifting power within the aid sector, and strengthening Global South leadership. With major organisational milestones approaching — including the launch of a new website, the release of a flagship research report, and the celebration of NEAR’s 10-year anniversary — the organisation is expanding its communications efforts and seeking additional support across its digital platforms. About NEAR NEAR is a Global South-led network focused on transforming the international aid system by advancing locally led development and humanitarian action. Through advocacy, collaboration, research, and partnerships, the organisation works to strengthen the voice and influence of local actors in decision-making spaces. As part of its 2026 communications strategy, NEAR aims to grow its online visibility, strengthen engagement with its members and partners, and amplify stories and insights from across the Global South. Role Overview The Digital Communications Intern will support the coordination and delivery of NEAR’s external communications activities. The position offers hands-on experience across website management, social media communications, digital storytelling, and newsletter production. The internship is fully remote and requires approximately 28 hours per week. The selected candidate will receive a monthly stipend of USD 350 during the six-month contract period. Key Responsibilities Website Content Coordination One of the intern’s primary responsibilities will involve supporting content management for NEAR’s new website. This includes assisting with uploading and organising blogs, reports, member stories, and other digital resources. The intern will also help maintain the website by ensuring content remains updated, accessible, and aligned with NEAR’s communications objectives. Social Media Support The successful candidate will assist in implementing NEAR’s 2026 social media strategy across multiple platforms, with a primary focus on LinkedIn and selective engagement on X, Instagram, and YouTube. Responsibilities will include: Scheduling weekly content Assisting with the creation of visual assets Monitoring audience engagement Supporting basic analytics reporting The role provides valuable exposure to strategic digital communications and audience engagement within the international development sector. Newsletter Production The Digital Communications Intern will also support the production of NEAR’s monthly external newsletters. Tasks will include formatting and scheduling newsletters through Mailchimp, as well as contributing to mailing list growth initiatives. NEAR aims to significantly increase its subscriber base in 2026, with a target of growing from 1,300 to 3,000 subscribers. Additional Communications Tasks The intern may also support other communications-related assignments as needed throughout the internship period, offering broad exposure to digital communications operations within a global nonprofit environment.
