Practitioner applicants must demonstrate at least five years of advanced professional achievement in the field. This may include significant international experience in peace education, NGO management, or related areas. Fellowship Responsibilities The successful fellow will undertake a substantial project addressing education for sustainable peace, preferably with a focus on educational media or curriculum development. Research Environment in Germany During the fellowship, the Senior Fellow will be based at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute in Brunswick, Germany. English is the working language. The fellow will have access to GEI’s extensive collection of educational media, including school textbooks, curricula, and digital learning resources. These materials can support research into how educational media contribute to peace and reconciliation or, conversely, reinforce inequalities and conflict. The Institute’s digital media laboratory also provides opportunities to explore innovative approaches involving games, learning technologies, virtual reality, robotics, and creative pedagogies. Application and Selection Process The selection process consists of several stages. Applicants first complete an online application describing their proposed project, including its objectives, research gap, theoretical and methodological framework, and expected outcomes. GEI will then conduct an internal pre-selection process, after which up to 10 applications may be forwarded to the Academic Advisory Board. The Board will shortlist three candidates. These finalists will be invited to submit a detailed proposal of no more than 25 pages, including references and evidence of their impact in peace education. Each finalist will also participate in an online interview before the final selection. How to Strengthen the Application Applicants should develop a clearly focused project that demonstrates strong alignment with the Georg Arnhold Program’s objectives. The proposal should identify a meaningful research or practice gap and explain how the project will generate useful outcomes for peace education. Candidates should also demonstrate their expertise, innovation, professional impact, and motivation to benefit specifically from a research stay at GEI.
