The Bayer Foundation is pleased to announce that applications for its 2026 Fellowships Program are now open. The program supports outstanding master’s students, PhD candidates, medical students, and STEM student teachers through international research placements, internships, and educational projects. With funding of up to €10,000, the Bayer Foundation Fellowships provide a unique opportunity to gain international experience, expand research networks, and strengthen academic or professional development. The application phase runs from February 18 to April 15, 2026. Scientific Fellowships for Master’s, PhD & Medical Students The Bayer Foundation offers scientific fellowships for high-achieving students pursuing research and applied projects with international relevance. These fellowships are designed to enhance academic study programs by supporting placements abroad. In line with its commitment to diversity and inclusion in science, the Foundation strongly encourages applications from: Women in science Individuals from low- and middle-income countries Parents with caregiving responsibilities Individuals working in Germany with German as a second language Available Scientific Fellowships Fellowship in Drug Discovery Sciences Open to master’s and PhD students from all scientific disciplines, including pharmacy and data science, whose work relates to pharmaceutical or consumer healthcare industries. Fellowship for Agricultural Science For master’s and PhD students from scientific disciplines, including data science, with research relevant to crop science and sustainable agriculture. Fellowship for Medical Sciences Open to students of human and veterinary medicine, as well as master’s and PhD students in medical engineering, applied medical sciences, data science in medicine, and public health. New: Fellowship for Climate & Health This new fellowship supports students working on the health impacts of climate change. Eligible applicants include students of medicine (human or veterinary), natural sciences, pharmacy, public health, and epidemiology. Focus areas include: Health of women and vulnerable populations Cardio-renal health Neglected tropical diseases Respiratory health These fellowships were established in memory of influential Bayer leaders and scientists, including Otto Bayer, Jeff Schell, and Carl Duisberg. Funding & Duration Successful applicants may receive up to €10,000 in funding. Scientific fellowships may last up to six months and can support: Research projects International internships Academic placements Students enrolled in Germany must undertake their fellowship in a second country. Students enrolled outside Germany must complete their fellowship at a German research institution. Applicants are strongly encouraged to review the full guidelines and FAQs before applying. Fellowship for STEM Student Teachers & Teachers In addition to scientific fellowships, the Bayer Foundation offers a dedicated program for STEM student teachers and early-career educators. This fellowship aims to strengthen STEM education and empower teachers who shape future generations. Who Can Apply? This fellowship is available only to applicants currently studying or working in Germany. Eligible candidates include: Trainee teachers or pedagogy students (Bachelor, Master, PhD, or Staatsexamen) with a STEM focus Newly qualified teachers (less than three years of experience) specializing in STEM subjects Primary (Grundschule) or special education (Förderschule) teachers seeking to enhance STEM teaching capacity Funding & Duration Applicants may receive up to €10,000 in funding for projects lasting up to twelve months. Funding may be used for: Internships Research projects in STEM education Professional trainings Summer schools Research courses Projects may take place in Germany or abroad. This fellowship is established in memory of Kurt Hansen, former Chairman of the Board of Management at Bayer.
