The National School Climate Survey is a nationwide research initiative examining the experiences of LGBTQIA2S+ students in middle and high schools across the United States. The research examines school climate and culture and generates evidence that can help educators, researchers, advocates and policymakers better understand the experiences of LGBTQIA2S+ students. The Quantitative Research Assistant will contribute directly to the research process by helping Glisten clean, analyze and interpret survey data from the 2027 study while also supporting analysis of historical datasets. What Will the Quantitative Research Assistant Do? The selected contractor will collaborate with Glisten’s Research team throughout the project. A central responsibility will involve developing and implementing quantitative data analysis plans. This will require selecting appropriate statistical methods and tests based on the research questions and characteristics of the survey data. The contractor will also take a leading role in data processing and cleaning, including assessing data quality, addressing missing data and merging multiple large datasets. Maintaining accurate and comprehensive data documentation will also be important. The researcher will collaborate on updating and integrating data dictionaries and codebooks throughout the project. Statistical Analysis and R Programming The position is particularly suited to researchers with strong statistical programming capabilities. The contractor will be expected to code and run statistical analyses in R and identify trends, relationships and patterns within the survey data. The work may include analyses over time and additional quantitative analysis informed by findings from qualitative research. Desired statistical expertise includes: Multivariate regression Power analysis Factor analysis Structural equation modeling Longitudinal or over-time analysis Survey data analysis Experience handling large datasets is also important because the project involves processing and merging multiple substantial datasets. Working Across Quantitative and Qualitative Research The role is not limited to quantitative analysis. The successful contractor will work with members of Glisten’s qualitative research team to process and prepare open-ended survey responses for analysis. The position therefore requires someone who can collaborate effectively across research methodologies and communicate quantitative findings to colleagues working on qualitative components of the project. The ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with the wider research team will be important. Key Deliverables The contractor will be responsible for producing several research outputs throughout the assignment. These include R scripts and data analysis documentation, an updated data dictionary or codebook, data visualizations such as tables and charts, and a written methodology and findings report for the NSCS 2027 research project. The contractor may also be asked to conduct additional analyses based on findings emerging from focus groups and related qualitative research. Skills and Experience Glisten Is Seeking Candidates should demonstrate strong quantitative research and statistical skills, together with practical experience using R. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with large datasets are also desired. Experience conducting longitudinal or over-time analyses would strengthen an application, as would experience processing demographic information involving sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and race or ethnicity. Familiarity with K–12 education research or school climate research is considered an advantage. Knowledge of Qualtrics fraud detection software is also a plus. Beyond technical skills, Glisten is looking for a researcher who demonstrates adaptability, flexibility, organization and the ability to collaborate effectively with other researchers. $8,000 Contract and Payment Structure The total contract value is $8,000, covering the agreed scope of work and associated deliverables. Payment will be divided into two installments of $4,000. The first $4,000 payment will follow submission of all deliverables for the first phase. The remaining $4,000 will be paid after completion of the remaining deliverables and the full scope of work. Invoices are expected to be paid within 30 days of submission. The selected contractor will also undergo a background check and will be required to sign the contract and a non-disclosure agreement. Project Timeline The project is structured across two major analytical phases. The contractor is expected to be onboarded by September 17, 2026, following completion of the required administrative processes and data-access arrangements. The first phase, covering NSCS27 data cleaning and analysis, is scheduled to run from September 17 to December 1, 2026. The second phase will focus on cleaning and analyzing historical NSCS datasets and conducting over-time analyses from December 1, 2026 to May 14, 2027.
