GMH supports catalytic investments, accelerates near-term emissions reductions, and lays the foundation for long-term transformation across the energy, agricultural, and waste sectors, which together account for approximately 96 percent of human-caused methane emissions. While GMH operates globally, its approach emphasises locally grounded solutions, recognising that durable progress depends on strong engagement with sub-national actors and communities. GMH’s grantmaking targets the highest-emitting sectors and regions, supported by a globally distributed team across six continents. The organisation is headquartered in Santiago, Chile, and is legally established as a Netherlands Stichting (foundation). Purpose of the Role The Accounting Manager leads the organisation’s global accounting operations, serving as the technical accounting expert responsible for financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and strong internal controls. With an annual budget of approximately USD 100 million, this role ensures that GMH’s financial records, systems, and reporting frameworks support transparency, accountability, and strategic decision-making. Reporting to the Finance Lead and working closely with the Chief Finance and Administration Officer, the Accounting Manager oversees day-to-day accounting operations across jurisdictions, ensures compliance with Dutch regulatory and accounting requirements, and manages relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and financial service providers. The role plays a critical function in supporting GMH’s complex, multi-entity and multi-currency operating environment. Primary Responsibilities Accounting Operations and Financial Management Lead all accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions Maintain the general ledger and oversee journal entries across all entities Collaborate with Finance Operations to ensure correct coding of invoices and payments Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoicing, payments, and collections Oversee month-end and year-end close processes across all GMH entities Conduct regular reconciliations of bank accounts, credit cards, intercompany balances, and balance sheet accounts Prepare financial statements in accordance with applicable standards, including Dutch GAAP for Stichting operations Manage intercompany transactions, eliminations, and consolidated financial reporting Coordinate payroll and Employer of Record services across multiple jurisdictions Design and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud Compliance and Regulatory Management Ensure full compliance with Dutch GAAP and Stichting regulatory requirements Prepare statutory financial statements for the Netherlands Stichting Maintain compliance with ANBI (Public Benefit Organisation) status and reporting obligations Manage Dutch tax compliance, including VAT administration and coordination of corporate tax filings Monitor regulatory changes affecting accounting and tax obligations Coordinate compliance requirements across other jurisdictions with external advisors Ensure adherence to donor restrictions, grant compliance, and fiscal sponsor requirements Maintain complete audit trails and organised accounting documentation Accounting Systems and Process Improvement Maintain accounting system configurations and master data Ensure effective integration between accounting platforms, grant management systems (Fluxx), and financial tools Develop and document accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency, and process improvement Maintain a chart of accounts supporting multi-entity and multi-currency operations Train and support team members on accounting systems and best practices Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions Support budget-to-actual analysis, variance explanations, and forecasting Reporting and Audit Coordination Produce timely financial reports for the Finance Lead and senior leadership Prepare financial schedules for board reporting, audits, and regulatory submissions Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial service providers Coordinate annual audit processes and respond to auditor inquiries Serve as a primary liaison with the Dutch Tax Authority (Belastingdienst) Collaborate with Grants and Program teams on financial compliance matters Coordinate with fiscal sponsor finance teams during transition periods Risk Management and Technology Leadership Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks Develop business continuity plans for accounting operations Contribute to digital transformation initiatives within finance Evaluate and recommend financial technology solutions that strengthen controls and reporting Candidate Profile Required Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field Professional accounting qualification (RA, AA, or equivalent) preferred Minimum of 5 years’ progressive accounting experience Strong technical knowledge of Dutch GAAP and Stichting regulations Demonstrated experience with Dutch tax compliance, including VAT and corporate tax Experience supporting audits for organisations with budgets exceeding USD 50 million Fluency in Dutch and English, both written and spoken Proficiency with accounting software and cloud-based ERP systems Strong understanding of internal controls, audit processes, and regulatory compliance Ability to work independently in a remote, globally distributed environment Desirable Experience Background in non-profit, foundation, or philanthropic organisations Experience with international accounting standards (IFRS or US GAAP) Experience managing multi-entity or multi-jurisdictional accounting operations Familiarity with ANBI requirements and public accountability standards Additional Information This is a full-time remote role requiring flexibility to collaborate across multiple time zones. International travel of approximately 10 percent may be required.
