The initiative brings together students, developers, scientists, designers, storytellers, and space enthusiasts to solve real-world problems using open-source data from NASA and its international space agency partners. You do not need to be a programmer or space expert to participate—NASA explicitly welcomes participants of all backgrounds, ages, and experience levels. Challenge Areas & Project Types During the two-day hackathon, teams or individual participants tackle challenges in key domains including Earth & climate, space exploration, satellite data, agriculture, and software development. Depending on your chosen challenge, your project can be: Software & Apps: Websites, mobile applications, software prototypes, or data visualisations. Creative & Concepts: Scientific models, educational tools, artistic or storytelling projects, and conceptual designs. Benefits & Recognition Global Recognition: Standout projects undergo official judging for prestigious NASA Space Apps Global Awards. Official Certificate: All participants who successfully submit a completed project receive an official NASA Space Apps Certificate of Participation.
