Greenpeace MENA is seeking an experienced Engagement Director to lead its regional engagement strategy, strengthen supporter relationships, and expand its environmental advocacy across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The remote leadership position forms part of the organization’s Senior Management Team and offers an opportunity to shape strategic communications, fundraising, and public engagement initiatives across the region. About the Role The Engagement Director will oversee the implementation and continuous refinement of Greenpeace MENA’s engagement strategy while ensuring alignment with the organization’s campaign, fundraising, and organizational objectives. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will manage the Engagement Department, oversee departmental budgets, strengthen internal collaboration, and develop external partnerships that advance Greenpeace MENA’s environmental mission. The position is fully remote and based within the MENA region. Key Responsibilities The Engagement Director will lead the development and execution of integrated engagement strategies designed to expand Greenpeace MENA’s reach and supporter base. Primary responsibilities include: Designing regional engagement strategies incorporating communications, media, digital, and community engagement Establishing engagement objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) Leading strategic communication projects that strengthen Greenpeace MENA’s regional brand Developing messaging and approving strategic communications materials Building relationships with media organizations and key external stakeholders Expanding supporter recruitment and long-term engagement across multiple channels Monitoring developments in digital communications, technology, and the nonprofit sector Managing departmental budgets and resource allocation The successful candidate will also contribute to organization-wide strategic planning as a member of the Senior Management Team. Leadership and Team Management A significant component of the role involves managing and developing the Engagement Department while fostering collaboration across the organization. Leadership responsibilities include: Supervising and mentoring engagement team members Setting departmental objectives and performance standards Providing coaching, training, and professional development Supporting campaign and fundraising teams to maximize public engagement Acting as Greenpeace MENA’s engagement focal point with Greenpeace International Coordinating with international colleagues on global campaigns and initiatives The organization is seeking a leader capable of building an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture. Audience Engagement and Supporter Development The Engagement Director will oversee the organization’s supporter engagement strategy and strengthen relationships with both existing and new audiences. Core responsibilities include: Managing integrated supporter journeys Collaborating closely with fundraising teams Improving supporter and donor engagement Overseeing data management systems and reporting processes Managing relationships with external suppliers and strategic partners Integrating storytelling into public engagement campaigns to strengthen audience connections The role combines communications, fundraising, and digital engagement into a unified supporter experience. Required Qualifications Applicants should possess strong academic credentials alongside significant senior leadership experience. Minimum requirements include: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, media studies, advertising, or a related discipline At least 10 years of senior-level engagement experience within international or national nonprofit organizations Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams Strong background in data-driven decision-making and performance reporting Experience in advocacy communications, marketing, or supporter engagement Knowledge of digital communications technologies and community mobilization Experience working in multicultural organizations is considered essential. Skills and Competencies Successful applicants should demonstrate expertise across several functional areas. Technical competencies include: Excellent written and verbal English communication skills Arabic language skills considered an advantage Experience in supporter acquisition and donor engagement Strong understanding of fundraising and marketing strategies Knowledge of communication planning and audience segmentation Leadership competencies include: Strategic planning and organizational development Performance management and budgeting Coaching and mentoring diverse teams Building relationships across complex stakeholder environments Leading organizational change and innovation The role also requires familiarity with the media landscape and nonprofit advocacy sector.
