The Institute emphasizes inclusivity, transparency, and equity in its organizational practices. Adding It Up (AIU) is a key multi-component research project conducted by the Institute. AIU estimates the need for, impact of, and costs associated with delivering essential sexual and reproductive health services for women of reproductive age (15–49), their newborns, and adolescents. Position Summary The Senior Research Assistant (AIU) provides critical research support and coordination for AIU’s projects and deliverables. This role assists senior and mid-level staff in tasks related to data processing, management, analysis, visualization, manuscript preparation, presentations, and operational support. The position requires a high degree of independence under the guidance of a Senior or Principal Research Scientist and may include reviewing tasks completed by other research assistants. Key Responsibilities Data Management and Analysis Investigate and resolve data collection issues, including respondent and database challenges. Clean, process, and verify data to ensure accuracy. Programmatically generate tables and reports from data. Oversee coding and data preparation, develop coding instructions, and train research assistants. Support senior staff in managing, analyzing, and documenting international survey data (e.g., DHS, MICS, PMA). Assist with original data collection, including programming questionnaires and cost data collection tools. Manuscript and Presentation Support Conduct literature searches, draft article summaries, and maintain reference libraries using Zotero. Format references, tables, and figures to meet journal specifications. Fact-check manuscripts, reports, and fact sheets for accuracy. Create tables and figures for manuscripts and presentations. Assist in preparing abstracts, posters, and presentation materials for conferences. Contribute to drafting and reviewing project reports, policy analyses, and articles. Review and provide feedback on communication materials, including fact sheets, social media posts, press releases, and online tools. Prepare materials for stakeholder and technical advisory group meetings. Operational and Administrative Support Archive project materials during and after completion. Provide operational support to the AIU Program Manager and Project Lead. Coordinate meetings, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and note-taking. Serve as an internal resource for software applications such as Stata, R, NVIVO, Git, Microsoft Office, and Zotero. Perform other related tasks as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with at least one year of related experience. Proficiency in quantitative analysis software (e.g., Stata, R). Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; willingness to learn additional tools. Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills. Attention to detail and accuracy in all work products. Familiarity with reproductive health topics, including contraception, abortion, and sexual health. Ability to work independently and take on progressively more responsibility. Experience in supervising or training research assistants is preferred. Fluency in French and/or Spanish is a plus. Salary and Benefits Salary range: $64,500–$80,600, depending on experience and location (New York City/DC area). Union-represented position with hybrid work schedule (8 days in-office per month).
