This role provides a practical, hands-on learning opportunity within a global nonprofit organisation committed to ending hunger and poverty while caring for the planet. Role Overview The Finance Intern will support accounting management activities within the Heifer Africa Regional Office, ensuring compliance with global accounting policies, donor requirements, and local statutory regulations. The role is highly practical and learning-oriented, providing exposure to real financial operations across multiple countries. The intern will work closely with the Regional Finance Team, as well as Administration and Procurement colleagues, contributing to accurate financial processing, documentation, and audit readiness. Key Responsibilities and Learning Outcomes A. Payment Processing and Invoice Verification (40%) Key Responsibilities Coordinate with Administration and Procurement teams to verify vendor payment documentation Review invoices to confirm accuracy, validity, and compliance with organisational requirements Support payment processing to ensure timely and accurate disbursements Learning Outcomes Practical understanding of end-to-end payment processing workflows Ability to assess invoices and supporting documents for completeness and accuracy Improved understanding of internal financial controls and approval processes Experience working across departments in financial operations B. Audit, Compliance, and Regulatory Support (30%) Key Responsibilities Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and assisting with audit processes Assist with compliance related to Nigerian laws, IFRS, and local GAAP requirements Retrieve financial records and respond to audit queries under supervision Learning Outcomes Understanding of audit processes within an international nonprofit Exposure to IFRS and local GAAP application Enhanced attention to detail and compliance awareness Practical experience supporting audit readiness and reviews C. Financial Records Management and Documentation (20%) Key Responsibilities Maintain an organised and efficient filing system for financial records Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with internal and external standards Support the Finance team in maintaining up-to-date accounting records Learning Outcomes Strong competence in financial record-keeping and documentation Understanding the importance of data accuracy, traceability, and accountability Improved organisational and information management skills D.
