globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

January 28, 2026

Description

Location: Nairobi, Kenya (with field visits to Sudan)Contract: 3 months | International positionStart date: As soon as possibleApplication deadline: 28 January 2026 (applications reviewed on a rolling basis) Organisational Overview Humanity & Inclusion (HI), formerly Handicap International, is an independent, impartial humanitarian organisation working in situations of poverty, exclusion, conflict, and disaster. HI partners with persons with disabilities and other vulnerable populations to address essential needs, improve living conditions, and promote dignity, fundamental rights, and inclusion. Founded in 1982, HI has implemented development and humanitarian programmes in over 55 countries and currently manages an annual budget of approximately €200 million, supported by more than 4,000 staff worldwide. The organisation places a strong emphasis on inclusion and diversity and is actively committed to the integration of persons with disabilities within its workforce and operations. Context of the Mission The ongoing conflict in Sudan, which escalated in April 2023, has led to one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises. Approximately 30 million people require humanitarian assistance, with 14.5 million displaced, including 11 million internally displaced persons. Sudan has been classified as a hotspot of highest concern for acute food insecurity, with more than half of the population facing severe food shortages according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC). The health system has been critically affected, with up to 80% of health facilities non-functional in active conflict zones. Regions such as Darfur continue to experience intensified violence, with an estimated 9 million people projected to require humanitarian assistance in 2025. Persons with disabilities are disproportionately affected by the crisis. Persistent attitudinal, physical, and communication barriers limit their access to humanitarian assistance, increase protection risks, and exacerbate exposure to neglect, violence, and exclusion. HI Operations in Sudan HI initiated operations in Sudan in early 2024 through remote support to a national NGO, focusing on physical and functional rehabilitation, psychosocial support, and inclusive humanitarian action in Gedaref State. Following official registration with Sudanese authorities, HI expanded operations to West Darfur and later to Jazeera State, implementing direct interventions including hygiene kit distributions, cash-for-food assistance, and physical rehabilitation services. Disability inclusion remains a cross-cutting priority across all interventions. Role Purpose Under the supervision of the Country Director based in Nairobi, the Inclusive Humanitarian Action (IHA) Specialist contributes to the implementation of HI’s mandate and 10-year strategy. The role provides strategic, technical, and coordination leadership to ensure disability inclusion is systematically embedded across humanitarian response efforts in Sudan.
