HuMENA for Human Rights and Civic Engagement is recruiting a Programs Lead to support the organization’s operational growth and program delivery across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This full-time, remote position is structured as a 12-month consultancy contract, renewable based on performance and funding. The selected candidate will report directly to the Executive Director and is expected to begin by mid-June 2026 or earlier. The role is designed for a highly organized professional capable of strengthening coordination, ensuring accountability, and maintaining consistency across projects, teams, and partnerships. Compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and the scope of responsibilities. About HuMENA HuMENA is a non-profit, non-partisan human rights organization rooted in the MENA region and connected to its diasporas. Operating from Brussels and Beirut, with a distributed regional team, the organization focuses on defending civic space and supporting human rights defenders working under conditions of repression, displacement, and limited freedoms. Its work is centered on empowering: Human rights defenders Journalists and activists Grassroots organizers Marginalized civic actors HuMENA adopts a comprehensive approach that includes: Evidence-based advocacy Capacity-building initiatives Strategic communications Protection-oriented support The organization prioritizes rights essential for civic engagement, including freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and access to public participation. Role Purpose The Programs Lead plays a critical coordination role, ensuring that HuMENA’s internal systems, workflows, and project implementation processes function effectively. The position does not replace technical program or finance roles but instead ensures alignment, tracking, and timely execution across all operational areas. Key responsibilities include: Overseeing project coordination and implementation tracking Managing team and consultant workflows Strengthening operational systems and internal processes Supporting donor reporting coordination Facilitating advocacy and communications outputs Key Responsibilities Project Coordination and Tracking Maintain a comprehensive overview of all active projects Develop workplans, trackers, and internal calendars Identify risks, delays, and bottlenecks early Ensure timely completion and documentation of deliverables Team and Consultant Coordination Organize internal meetings with clear action points Track deliverables and timelines across collaborators Support recruitment and onboarding of consultants Maintain consultant records, contracts, and milestones Operational Systems Development Build and improve internal tracking systems Standardize templates and documentation processes Strengthen coordination across departments Ensure visibility of deadlines, responsibilities, and outputs Donor and Reporting Support Track reporting deadlines and requirements Coordinate inputs for donor reports Align programmatic and financial documentation Maintain grant obligation trackers Advocacy and Communications Coordination Manage timelines for advocacy outputs and publications Review materials for clarity and consistency Track partnerships, campaigns, and external commitments Support internal coordination for advocacy planning Candidate Profile HuMENA seeks a candidate who combines strong organizational skills with sound political judgment. The ideal candidate is capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and accountability. Essential qualifications include: Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in program coordination or operations At least 3 years in roles requiring independent decision-making Experience working with MENA-focused civil society or human rights organizations Fluency in Arabic and strong professional English Proven ability to develop systems and manage complex workflows Preferred qualifications: Experience in small or growing organizations Familiarity with donor reporting processes Knowledge of digital tools such as Asana, Notion, or Airtable Background in civic space, digital rights, or transnational repression Inclusion and Working Environment HuMENA promotes an inclusive and diverse work environment.
