Description

The Climate Change Project Coordinator at ICLEI Canada plays a central role in advancing climate adaptation and resilience initiatives across Canada. This position is designed for professionals who combine strong technical expertise with project coordination skills, enabling them to support impactful, community-driven climate solutions. The coordinator contributes to national sustainability efforts by designing and implementing programs that strengthen local governments’ ability to respond to climate risks. Working within a dynamic and fast-paced environment, the role emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and practical problem-solving. Key Responsibilities The position involves a wide range of technical, coordination, and programmatic responsibilities, including: Delivering high-quality technical support on climate change adaptation and resilience, with a focus on: Climate data analysis Impact identification Vulnerability and risk assessments Supporting the Advancing Implementation Training Initiative (AITI) by: Developing tools and resources Designing and facilitating workshops Enhancing participant learning experiences Coordinating major programs and projects, such as: Building Adaptive and Resilient Cities (BARC) Ontario Resource Centre for Climate Adaptation (ORCCA) Climate Insight initiatives Coastal Climate Resilience Collaborative Contributing to research, writing, and delivery of capacity-building materials and events Planning and executing key events, including: Livable Cities Forum Adaptation Canada 2026 Supporting fundraising efforts through: Proposal development Project design Developing and delivering: Training workshops Webinars Capacity-building sessions on climate adaptation and biodiversity Assisting with communications and outreach, including: Content creation Website updates Social media engagement (e.g., LinkedIn) Conducting research on global climate initiatives to ensure programs remain relevant and innovative Providing internal support and guidance to project teams Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator, proactive coordinator, and analytical thinker who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. Required Qualifications A university degree in: Environmental studies Urban planning Sustainable development Public administration or related fields At least 4 years of professional experience in: Climate change adaptation Sustainability or urban planning Engineering or related disciplines Demonstrated experience in: Climate data analysis Risk and vulnerability assessment Adaptation planning Strong understanding of: Local government systems Climate resilience strategies at local, provincial, and national levels Excellent: Writing and communication skills Research and analytical abilities Fluency in English (French is a strong asset) Additional Assets Experience in: Climate communications Community engagement Knowledge of: Emerging sustainability technologies Real-world climate solutions Strong technical proficiency, including familiarity with Mac systems Ability to work effectively in: Fast-paced Evolving environments Position Details Salary: $70,000 – $85,000 annually Employment Type: Full-time (1-year term, with potential extension) Work Arrangement: Remote within Canada, with occasional in-office requirements Work Hours: 40 hours per week (flexible schedule) Benefits and Perks Merit-based annual bonus (2–6%) Paid leave: 15 vacation days Additional winter break days 12 sick days annually Comprehensive health benefits: Dental, vision, and extended health coverage Life insurance Employee Assistance Program Retirement savings contributions Access to professional development funding and learning opportunities About the Organization ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is a global network of over 2,500 local and regional governments working toward sustainable urban development.
