The PDP Healthcare Innovation Program The Product Development Program (PDP) is designed to accelerate early-stage healthcare innovations, enabling participants to transform ideas into practical, scalable solutions. The program focuses on medical devices and technologies that enhance independence, safety, and care delivery, particularly in local contexts. Types of Innovations Supported Devices that improve daily living Devices that enhance access to healthcare Devices supporting treatment and care delivery Locally adapted healthcare technologies Early detection tools Benefits of Joining PDP Access to Advanced Product Development Participants receive hands-on access to advanced prototyping facilities, machines, and equipment to support the full medical device development lifecycle—from early concepts to MVPs and commercialization-ready solutions. This includes: Prototyping, functional testing, and validation support Guidance from technical mentors throughout the development process Up to USD 3,000 in in-kind support to accelerate early-stage innovation Expert Mentorship and Collaborative Support PDP participants benefit from a robust, multidisciplinary support ecosystem: Mentorship from experts in healthcare, life sciences, engineering, regulatory affairs, and business development Connections with partners, industry stakeholders, and innovators for practical insights and collaborations Tailored cohort-based support to match project stage and unique needs Incubation and Business Support PDP combines technical and business development support to ensure innovations are sustainable and impactful: Human-centered design and user-focused solutions Business modeling and value proposition development Guidance on legal, ethical, and regulatory considerations Strategies for sustainability, scale, and market entry Qualifications for Participation To join the PDP program, applicants must demonstrate the following: Healthcare Focus: Solutions should address critical health challenges in Tanzania and improve quality of life. Potential for Impact: Innovations must show growth potential and the ability to improve community health outcomes. Early-Stage Projects: Projects should have at least a working prototype and demonstrate feasibility. Collaborative Mindset: Participants must adhere to PDP principles, work closely with mentors, and integrate feedback. Team Composition: Teams should consist of at least two members with complementary skill sets. Gender-balanced teams are an advantage. Ethical and Legal Compliance: Projects must ensure patient confidentiality, data privacy, and adherence to local regulations. Application Process Applicants are invited to submit their innovations for consideration by 1 February 2026.
