IMPACT works to support humanitarian, stabilisation, and development actors to make informed, evidence-based decisions by engaging directly with affected communities and stakeholders. IMPACT structures its work through initiative-based programming, each with a defined operational model and portfolio of solutions: REACH: Strengthens evidence-based humanitarian decision-making through high-quality data collection, management, and analysis PANDA: Enhances programme design, assessments, and monitoring and evaluation for humanitarian and development interventions AGORA: Promotes localised, multi-sectoral aid approaches supporting recovery and stabilisation in crisis-affected communities Globally, IMPACT publishes more than 1,700 information products annually through its network of research specialists. Country Context Nigeria faces multiple, overlapping security and humanitarian challenges. Protracted conflict involving ISWAP and JAS (Boko Haram) in the Northeast has displaced millions and restricted access to services across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states. In the Northwest, escalating insecurity, criminal violence, and kidnappings have severely disrupted livelihoods and education systems. Additional pressures include farmer–herder conflict in the central belt, militancy in the Niger Delta, and separatist tensions in the Southeast. In response, IMPACT Initiatives has delivered extensive research across Nigeria, including Multi-Sectoral Needs Assessments, Hard-to-Reach assessments, Area-Based Assessments, Rapid Overviews of Areas of Return, thematic and rapid assessments, WASH infrastructure mapping, famine monitoring, nutrition surveillance, food security analysis, and joint market monitoring initiatives. Position Overview IMPACT Initiatives is seeking a Research Manager to lead its PANDA research portfolio in Nigeria. The position is initially focused on the Third-Party Monitoring (TPM) project under the UK FCDO Humanitarian and Resilience Programme, implemented through a consortium with FACT Foundation. The Research Manager will be seconded to and hosted by FACT during the assignment. The portfolio is expected to expand in 2026 with the anticipated launch of an ECHO-funded consortium focused on cash-based rapid response mechanisms. The Research Manager will oversee research delivery across all active grants, ensuring high-quality outputs, contractual compliance, and effective capacity building of partner staff. Under the supervision of the Country Coordinator, the Research Manager will lead research strategy, implementation, team management, and stakeholder engagement. Key Responsibilities Strategy Development and Oversight Maintain an up-to-date understanding of Nigeria’s humanitarian, socio-economic, and aid landscape Lead development and implementation of research strategies for TPM and future programmes Ensure alignment of research activities with country and project strategies Develop workplans and structures that enable timely delivery of high-quality outputs Research Planning and Coordination Ensure all research adheres to IMPACT HQ standards and guidelines Oversee secondary data reviews and validation of research terms of reference Track progress across multiple assessments and proactively address delays Coordinate closely with consortium partners on data collection and research activities Chair consortium technical advisory meetings and facilitate regular progress reviews Research Implementation and Quality Assurance Ensure data collection, storage, cleaning, and analysis comply with IMPACT data management protocols Oversee quantitative and qualitative data analysis and information product drafting Review and validate research outputs prior to HQ and donor submission Ensure data protection, anonymisation, and ethical compliance across all outputs Lead dissemination and engagement with donors and implementing partners Team Management and Capacity Building Supervise international research staff and support capacity strengthening of national partners Establish clear roles, workplans, and performance indicators for team members Promote staff welfare, productivity, and team cohesion Mentor staff and support professional development, internal mobility, and surge opportunities Coordinate with HQ on performance management and HR-related matters Required Qualifications and Experience Master’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, Social Research, Economics, Development Studies, or a related field Minimum of four years of relevant experience in humanitarian research, assessments, or monitoring and evaluation Proven management experience in an INGO field setting Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, including assessment design and data analysis Familiarity with humanitarian coordination mechanisms and aid systems Excellent reporting, communication, and presentation skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with R, SPSS, STATA, or similar tools is an asset Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines Experience working in complex security environments; West Africa experience preferred Fluency in English required Compensation and Benefits Monthly salary between CHF 3,180 and CHF 3,240 (before tax), based on IMPACT salary scale Monthly living allowance of USD 300 Accommodation and meals provided in a guesthouse Comprehensive health, life, and repatriation insurance Swiss private pension fund enrolment Flight tickets every six months and visa costs covered Annual leave of 36 days plus public holidays Pre-departure induction and security training Access to IMPACT’s Research Foundational Learning Programme Psychosocial support coverage as part of health insurance How to Apply Interested candidates should submit their application through the official IMPACT Initiatives recruitment platform.
