Indiana University has announced an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Community-Engaged Implementation Research within the Department of Applied Health Science at the Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington. The fellowship provides an opportunity for an emerging researcher to contribute to innovative public health research focused on implementation science, participatory co-design, diabetes prevention, and improving health outcomes among underserved communities. The full-time, 12-month non-tenure track appointment will be based in Bloomington, Indiana, with the possibility of renewal depending on performance and available research funding. The position is designed for researchers interested in translating evidence-based health interventions into practical solutions that can be implemented effectively in real-world settings. Fellowship Focus on Public Health Innovation and Health Equity The selected Postdoctoral Fellow will join the GALANOVA Lab, a research group dedicated to developing, adapting, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based strategies for chronic disease prevention and management. The research team focuses on strengthening community partnerships and expanding access to effective prevention services through implementation science and community-engaged approaches. The fellowship will particularly support research involving Latino, rural, and other underserved populations facing health disparities. The fellow will work under the mentorship of Dr. Ines Gonzalez Casanova and Dr. Karla Galaviz, contributing to research initiatives aimed at improving diabetes prevention and chronic disease management. Key research areas include: Implementation science and evidence-based intervention strategies. Community-engaged research methods. Participatory co-design approaches. Diabetes prevention and chronic disease management. Health equity among underserved populations. Translation of scientific evidence into community health improvements. Responsibilities of the Postdoctoral Fellow The successful candidate will contribute to an NIH-funded research project examining mobile health units for diabetes screening and prevention among Hispanic and Latino populations in rural Indiana. The fellow’s responsibilities will include: Coordinating implementation activities and research data collection. Supporting the design, adaptation, and evaluation of health interventions. Applying implementation science frameworks to improve intervention delivery. Conducting quantitative and mixed-methods data analysis. Preparing academic manuscripts and research presentations. Participating in conferences and knowledge dissemination activities. Supporting grant writing efforts, including career development funding applications. Mentoring students, research staff, and community health workers. Developing an independent research agenda aligned with the goals of the GALANOVA Lab. Eligibility Requirements for Applicants Indiana University is seeking candidates with strong academic backgrounds and demonstrated interest in applied public health research. Applicants must meet the following requirements: A PhD, DrPH, ScD, or equivalent doctoral degree by the start of the appointment. Degree qualification in Public Health, Epidemiology, Behavioral Science, Health Services Research, Nutrition, Social Sciences, Implementation Science, or a related discipline. Strong quantitative research capabilities. Excellent scientific writing skills. Spanish language proficiency. Candidates with additional experience in community-based research and chronic disease prevention will be highly considered. Preferred Qualifications and Experience While not mandatory, applicants with the following backgrounds are encouraged to apply: Experience in implementation science or dissemination and implementation research. Experience conducting participatory or community-engaged research. Research experience involving Latino or Hispanic communities. Experience working with rural or underserved populations. Background in diabetes prevention and chronic disease interventions. Experience with qualitative or mixed-methods research. Training in nutrition science, lifestyle medicine, or dietetics.
