The Opportunity IIED is seeking a dynamic Internal Communications & Events Manager to lead its internal engagement and events strategies. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional with a passion for strategic communications and event design to play a pivotal role in shaping how IIED connects, collaborates, and celebrates across its diverse, global community. This position combines strategic communications leadership with hands-on event management—both internal and external—ensuring that IIED’s values, achievements, and ideas are communicated clearly, consistently, and creatively. The successful candidate will join a collaborative and skilled Communications Group, contributing to a workplace culture that fosters inclusion, learning, and innovation. Key Responsibilities The Internal Communications & Events Manager will oversee the design, delivery, and evaluation of IIED’s internal communications and event strategies to strengthen engagement, collaboration, and knowledge exchange. Key responsibilities include: Internal Communications: Design and implement communication strategies that enhance employee engagement and information flow across teams and functions. Manage the intranet and internal communications channels to ensure timely, relevant, and accessible information sharing. Produce engaging content that reflects IIED’s mission, values, and strategic priorities. Support senior leadership in communicating key organisational updates and initiatives. Events Management: Lead the planning and delivery of high-quality internal and external events that inspire dialogue, learning, and collaboration. Develop event agendas, identify and brief speakers, and oversee logistical and technical preparations. Manage hybrid, virtual, and in-person events, ensuring seamless execution and meaningful participation. Write and edit event-related content for IIED’s website, newsletters, and social media platforms. Analyse event engagement data to inform continuous improvement. Operational Oversight: Manage budgets related to communications and events, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with organisational objectives. Coordinate cross-departmental collaboration to enhance the impact of internal engagement and external outreach initiatives. Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will be an accomplished communicator with significant experience designing and delivering internal communications strategies and managing complex events. They will be confident leading projects from concept to completion, able to translate strategic goals into compelling communications and impactful experiences. Essential qualifications and experience include: Extensive experience in internal communications and event management. Demonstrated ability to design and deliver effective communication and engagement strategies. Proven track record managing virtual, hybrid, and in-person events. Strong project management, coordination, and planning skills. Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively. Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams. Proficiency in MS Office 365, Zoom, and event platforms such as Eventbrite. Relevant qualification in internal communications, events, or marketing—or equivalent experience. Desirable experience: Experience working within an international or mission-driven organisation. Knowledge of communications best practices for globally dispersed teams. Experience in social impact or sustainability sectors. Why Join IIED?
