International Monetary Fund invites recent graduates to apply for the 2026 Research Analyst Program The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has officially opened applications for its 2026 Research Analyst Program (RAP), offering recent graduates a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in economic research, data analysis, and policy development at the organization’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., USA. About the IMF Research Analyst Program The Research Analyst Program is a two-year contractual programme that provides entry-level professional experience within one of the world’s leading international financial institutions. Key responsibilities Research Analysts selected for the programme will support the IMF’s operational and policy work through a variety of analytical and research activities, including: Conducting economic and policy research. Collecting, compiling and managing macroeconomic datasets. Maintaining economic, financial and statistical databases. Performing quantitative and econometric analysis. Analysing economic and financial time series data. Evaluating statistical relationships and economic trends. Developing systems for data integration and database management. Collaborating with IMF economists on research and policy projects. Keeping up to date with developments in economics, finance and related fields. Eligibility requirements The IMF is seeking highly motivated applicants who meet the following minimum qualifications: Recent completion of a Bachelor’s degree in: Economics Computer Science Statistics Mathematics Finance Data Science Other related quantitative disciplines Candidates with advanced degrees in relevant fields may also be considered if they have limited professional experience. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0, or an international equivalent. Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Preferred technical skills Applicants with experience in the following software and programming tools will have an advantage: Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint STATA EViews MATLAB Python R Tableau Power BI Other statistical analysis and data visualisation software Knowledge of additional languages is considered an added advantage.
