Social Media Specialist (P3) at UN Women – Bonn, Germany UN Women is recruiting a Social Media Specialist (P3) for a fixed-term appointment in Bonn, Germany. This full-time international position sits within the Division of Communications and Advocacy (DCA) and plays a central role in advancing global gender equality narratives through strategic digital engagement. About UN Women Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2010, UN Women is the UN entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. It works globally to eliminate discrimination against women and girls, promote women’s rights, and ensure equal participation in political, economic, and social life. The Division of Communications and Advocacy positions gender equality and women’s empowerment as priorities on the global agenda, strengthening UN Women’s reputation as a partner of choice among governments, private sector actors, foundations, and civil society. Role Overview Reporting to the Head of Social Media, the Social Media Specialist will lead and coordinate UN Women’s global social media strategies—particularly in support of high-profile campaigns such as Beijing+30, International Women’s Day, and the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. The role combines strategic planning, content production oversight, digital analytics, stakeholder coordination, and internal capacity building to ensure UN Women maintains a strong and impactful global digital presence. Key Responsibilities 1. Lead Global Social Media Campaigns The Social Media Specialist will: Develop and implement large-scale social media strategies aligned with global communications plans Oversee creation of social media assets in collaboration with multimedia, editorial, and media teams Coordinate social media packages for international days and UN commemorations Provide analytics reports and campaign performance insights Manage social media partnerships to expand digital reach This function ensures that UN Women’s global campaigns effectively amplify gender equality priorities across digital platforms. 2. Manage Daily Global Social Media Outreach The Specialist will oversee daily engagement across UN Women’s global platforms, including: X (formerly Twitter) Instagram Facebook LinkedIn TikTok Core tasks include: Monitoring engagement and community management Increasing audience growth and interaction rates Identifying digital trends and conversation opportunities Producing and interpreting analytics reports Supervising consultants supporting social media work Researching and managing digital tools such as Hootsuite Additionally, the Specialist will monitor field office accounts and amplify regionally relevant content to ensure inclusive global representation. 3. Provide Technical Guidance and Capacity Building The role also includes advisory and administrative support functions, such as: Managing access to social media platforms and tools Providing guidance notes on platform usage Troubleshooting account issues Delivering training to UN Women staff globally Presenting UN Women’s digital strategies to other UN agencies This ensures consistent, high-quality digital communication across regions. Required Qualifications Education Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, International Affairs, Political Science, or related field; or A first-level degree combined with two additional years of relevant experience Experience Minimum 5 years of international-level social media experience Proven expertise in developing and executing large-scale digital campaigns Strong editorial judgment and multimedia content production skills Experience using advanced social media management and analytics tools (e.g., Hootsuite) Demonstrated ability to interpret analytics and optimize strategy Experience in fast-moving advocacy or news environments is desirable. Language Fluency in English (required) Knowledge of French or Spanish (desirable) Additional UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, Russian) considered an asset Core Competencies Candidates should demonstrate: Integrity, professionalism, and respect for diversity Awareness and sensitivity regarding gender issues Creative problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills Strong leadership and collaboration abilities Deep understanding of digital trends and multimedia storytelling Knowledge of women’s rights and gender equality issues is essential.
