Role Overview The Clinical Advisor position is based in **Oakland, **California, United States, with a hybrid working arrangement that allows remote work combined with optional in-person engagement. This part-time role typically requires approximately five hours per week. The Clinical Advisor will support the IRC’s Safety and Wellness Department, which focuses on ensuring that newly arrived refugee and immigrant populations have access to psychosocial support, trauma-informed services, and culturally sensitive mental health referrals. The role is essential in guiding program staff and strengthening mental health service delivery to populations who may have experienced trauma, gender-based violence, torture, displacement, or emotional distress. Key Responsibilities The Clinical Advisor plays a supervisory and advisory role within the Safety and Wellness team. Major responsibilities include: Clinical Supervision Conduct group supervision sessions for program staff and interns. Provide individual clinical supervision when needed. Training and Capacity Building Deliver consultation and training sessions on psychosocial support and trauma-informed care. Provide documentation review and guidance to ensure quality standards in case management. Program Support Support the development and implementation of mental health screening protocols. Advise staff on referrals for clients experiencing trauma, gender-based violence, or psychological distress. Administrative Duties Maintain compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and protocols. Support program managers and multidisciplinary teams in delivering effective services. Reporting and Collaboration The Clinical Advisor works within a collaborative team structure. Key working relationships include: Reports To Safety and Wellness Manager Provides Supervision To Master of Social Work (MSW) interns Health and Wellness Promoters Clinical Caseworkers Program Managers Through this structure, the Clinical Advisor contributes to strengthening professional practice, improving client outcomes, and supporting staff development. Required Qualifications Candidates for this role must demonstrate strong academic credentials and relevant professional experience in mental health or social services. Educational Requirements Graduate degree in one of the following fields: Social Work Psychology Counseling Equivalent mental health discipline Professional Experience Minimum of four years of relevant work experience in areas such as: Social services Mental health International development At least two years of experience developing or managing programs serving vulnerable populations. Preferred Licensure California licensure to provide clinical mental health services is preferred, including: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Licensed Marriage and Family Counselor (LMFC) Licensed Psychologist or Psy.D. Required Competencies The Clinical Advisor must demonstrate expertise in working with diverse populations and delivering trauma-informed care. Key competencies include: Knowledge of DSM-V diagnostic standards Ability to assess mental health needs and manage referrals Experience supporting survivors of: Gender-based violence Displacement or migration trauma Youth at risk Proven ability to supervise individuals and teams in clinical environments Strong communication skills in multicultural settings Ability to work both independently and collaboratively Language Skills Candidates must demonstrate: Fluency in written and spoken English. Additional languages relevant to refugee populations are considered an advantage, including: Arabic Farsi Pashto Tigrinya Burmese Spanish Amharic These language skills enhance the organization’s ability to provide culturally responsive services. Work Environment The position offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing staff to work remotely while maintaining the option to attend in-person meetings or sessions when necessary. Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for the Clinical Advisor position is $95,642 to $100,079 annually, pro-rated for part-time hours.
