The International Rescue Committee (IRC), founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, is a global humanitarian organization dedicated to supporting individuals affected by conflict and disaster. Operating in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities, the IRC restores health, safety, education, economic wellbeing and power to communities while fostering long-term resilience. Its Seattle Youth Program envisions a future in which young people from refugee and immigrant backgrounds possess the skills, resources, and confidence to pursue meaningful opportunities. Within this mission, the Youth Multilingual Program Specialist plays a key role in supporting newcomer middle and high school students through individualized tutoring and multilingual engagement. This full-time, hybrid, temporary position runs through September 30, 2026, and supports the Individualized Learning Program (ILP) by helping students accelerate learning, adjust to new school environments, and develop English language proficiency. Key Responsibilities Individualized Learning Program Delivery The Specialist works closely with the ILP team to deliver tailored academic support. Responsibilities include providing individualized tutoring, facilitating virtual group learning, and participating in summer learning initiatives. They support families in accessing digital resources and ensure that tutoring aligns with IRC standards through regular feedback calls and outreach. The role involves enrolling students into ILP programs, guiding families through systems navigation, and following up on school-related challenges. The Specialist trains parents and students to use digital tools such as Canva, Google Classroom, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams, enabling consistent participation in learning activities. They also support partnerships by attending community events, back-to-school nights, and school district activities. Accurate tracking of attendance, needs, and academic progress is essential, along with creating trauma-informed learning environments that foster emotional wellbeing. The Specialist helps evaluate program quality by collecting demographic data, recording attendance, and conducting end-of-program feedback calls. Technical Support Serving as a technical lead for the ILP team, the Specialist ensures smooth use of digital platforms, supporting staff and students with troubleshooting and onboarding for essential tools such as Google Classroom, Zoom, and Teams. Multilingual Engagement The role includes ongoing outreach to newcomer families across districts. The Specialist uses their language proficiency to tutor multilingual students, enroll families, verify student needs, and provide interpretation during district presentations. They translate program materials and conduct community engagement in the preferred languages of families, strengthening trust and access. Additional Responsibilities The Specialist participates fully in staff meetings, team engagement, and professional development. They comply with all organizational policies, including health and safety protocols for in-person instruction. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to ensure program success. Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Strong interest or experience in working with middle and high school youth. Experience in academic enrichment, tutoring, or youth programs. Experience working with multilingual learners. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field. Proficiency in Ukrainian, Dari, Pashto, or Arabic (spoken and written). Lived experience as a refugee, forcibly displaced person, or immigrant, or cross-cultural international experience. Trauma-informed, person-centered approach. Strong intercultural communication skills. Ability to maintain accurate case notes and documentation. Commitment to anti-racism and continuous learning. Strong time management, organization, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with digital platforms, including Zoom and Windows OS, and willingness to learn new systems. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, multicultural environment. Working Relationships and Environment The Specialist reports to the Youth Success Program Coordinator and may supervise volunteers and interns. Collaboration occurs with IRC’s internal programs including Youth and Education, New Roots, Health Empowerment, Survivor Services, Economic Empowerment, Immigration, and Development teams. Externally, the role engages closely with families, school districts, colleges, universities, and community-based organizations. The hybrid work model includes remote work within King County and in-person responsibilities at the Renton office or local community sites. Reliable internet and transportation are required. Typical hours run Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with occasional evenings or weekends. Compensation and Standards The expected pay range is $27–$29 per hour, depending on experience, location, and qualifications. All IRC staff adhere to the IRC Way, which includes standards of integrity, service, equality, and accountability.
