The Employment Specialist role, based in Spokane, Washington, is central to advancing self-sufficiency for refugees and immigrants through employment services. This position reports to the Economic Wellbeing Manager and works closely with employers, community organizations, service providers, and internal IRC teams to support job readiness, placement, and ongoing employment success for program participants. Purpose of the Role The Employment Specialist provides comprehensive employment services to refugees and immigrants, combining case management, employer engagement, and compliance support. The role ensures program participants receive tailored guidance throughout the job search, application, and placement process, while supporting organizational objectives, data collection, and reporting requirements. This position is hybrid-based, with responsibilities carried out in both office and remote settings, and may require occasional travel within the service area. Key Responsibilities Case Management: Deliver employment-focused case management, including intake, assessment, and pre-employment orientation for eligible participants. Develop individualized employment and self-sufficiency plans for adults, and coordinate service plans for family members. Provide referrals to relevant community resources. Guide participants through job applications, interviews, and onboarding processes. Maintain timely and accurate documentation, including case notes, employment outcomes, and post-placement follow-ups at 6 and 12 months. Enroll clients in IRC-provided classes and training programs. Employer Relations: Build and maintain strong partnerships with local employers to develop employment opportunities. Identify new employer partners and cultivate long-term engagement. Provide post-placement support to both participants and employers as needed. Compliance and Reporting: Track participant job performance, wages, and outcomes in accordance with program funding requirements. Ensure accurate and timely reporting, case file maintenance, and database management. Support program compliance and quality assurance initiatives. Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with IRC Spokane Economic Wellbeing and Health & Wellness teams, as well as other program departments. Participate in program meetings, staff development activities, and internal training. Adhere to IRC policies, procedures, and professional standards. Candidate Profile Essential Qualifications and Skills: Relevant degree or equivalent professional/lived experience. Minimum of three years’ experience in employment services, humanitarian, or development sectors. Knowledge of U.S. job search, placement, and employment practices. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, effective in multi-cultural settings. Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, including multitasking and prioritization. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and ability to travel locally. Commitment to anti-racism, inclusion, and continuous learning. Preferred Qualifications: Lived experience as a refugee or immigrant. Bilingual skills in languages spoken by local refugee populations (e.g., Arabic, Spanish, Swahili, Burmese, Vietnamese, Tigrinya). Established community connections and prior experience in employment services programming. Working Environment and Compensation The role is based in a standard professional office environment with flexible remote work options and may require occasional weekend or evening work. The position offers a pay range of $22–$24 per hour for U.S.-based candidates, with compensation calibrated according to location, experience, and job requirements.
