The New Roots Farm Coordinator will contribute to the organisation’s community-focused agricultural programming by managing farm sites and supporting participants with technical assistance, training, production and market access. New Roots Farm Coordinator Responsibilities The successful candidate will manage day-to-day operations at New Roots farm sites while supporting the wider Urban Farm and Community Gardening Program. Major responsibilities include: Farm Operations, Infrastructure and Safety Manage farm equipment, vehicles, tools, irrigation systems and wash stations. Maintain equipment inventories and coordinate necessary maintenance. Oversee aquaponics greenhouse operations, including tilapia production. Develop land management plans covering soil fertility, irrigation, composting, apiculture and farm inputs. Coordinate farm planning with programme staff and participating farmers. Implement farm and food safety plans and maintain GHP/GAP compliance. Support land acquisition and site development, including soil remediation, irrigation and infrastructure installation. Farmer Training and Technical Assistance The Farm Coordinator will develop and deliver training on sustainable agricultural practices. Training may cover crop planning, soil health, pest and weed management, irrigation, post-harvest handling and food safety. The position will also require regular visits to partner farms to assess needs and provide technical assistance. The coordinator will work with partners to facilitate additional training and resources relating to land management, production, food safety, business development and marketing. Programme Monitoring and Data Management The role includes significant responsibility for monitoring farm and participant data. The coordinator will track crop plans, harvest quantities and farmer sales while monitoring soil health, amendments, tillage and crop rotations. Aquaponics activities will also be monitored, including production levels, harvests, system maintenance, pH levels, overall system health and tilapia sales. Other duties include: Maintaining accurate participant records. Documenting farmer progress and skills development. Supporting grant and donor reporting. Contributing to grant proposals and programme reports. Community Partnerships and Outreach The Farm Coordinator will help strengthen partnerships with agricultural and community organisations, including the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, Local First Arizona and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. The position will also involve representing New Roots at community events, coordinating outreach activities and volunteer days, and supporting fundraising and resource-development initiatives. Additional activities may include supporting seasonal markets, produce deliveries, urban farm projects, community gardens and other New Roots initiatives. Eligibility and Requirements Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in agricultural sciences, agronomy, environmental sciences, agricultural business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Candidates should also have at least three years of agriculture-related experience, with diversified vegetable production and sustainable or organic farming experience preferred. Key requirements include: Ability to safely operate and maintain tractors, tillers, mowers, trimmers and other farm equipment. Strong organisational and time-management skills. Ability to work independently and prioritise multiple responsibilities. Fluency in written and spoken English. Ability to communicate effectively across cultures and with individuals who have limited English proficiency. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook. Experience with web-based data systems is considered an advantage. Valid driver’s licence. Active automobile insurance and reliable transportation. Possession of, or eligibility to obtain, an Arizona fingerprint clearance card. Working Environment and Compensation The position is performed in both a farm office and outdoor urban farm environments, with regular travel throughout the service area. The coordinator should be prepared for Saturday and weekday evening work when required. The role involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions and safely lifting up to 50 pounds.
