About the ISC Fellowship The ISC Fellowship was established in 2022 to recognize individuals who contribute significantly to the understanding, use, and global engagement of science. Since its inception, the fellowship has grown rapidly, with: 66 inaugural Fellows appointed in June 2022 57 additional Fellows and honorary recognitions awarded in December 2022 100 new Fellows announced in December 2023 The fellowship serves as a key instrument in the ISC’s mission to promote science for the common good, ensuring that scientific knowledge benefits societies worldwide. Key Focus Areas for Nomination Candidates nominated for the ISC Fellowship should demonstrate excellence in one or more of the following domains: Promoting science for the global good internationally Providing scientific leadership at regional or global levels Advancing the global voice of science Developing major scientific initiatives and institutions Achieving significant scientific accomplishments These criteria ensure that Fellows represent a diverse and impactful community shaping the future of science worldwide. Diversity and Inclusion The International Science Council places strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion in its fellowship selection process. Key targets include: No more than 60% representation of any single gender At least 40% of Fellows from low- and middle-income countries Broad representation across disciplines, regions, and career stages This commitment ensures that the fellowship reflects the global nature of science and includes voices from underrepresented communities. Who Can Nominate Fellows? Nominations can be submitted through two main groups: Group A: Existing ISC Fellows (excluding Fellowship Council members) Heads of ISC member organizations These nominations must include two supporting signatories from different organizations or Fellows. Group B: Members of the ISC Governing Board Leaders from partner organizations such as the World Federation of Engineering Organizations and UNESCO Representatives from global science bodies like the InterAcademy Partnership Group B nominations require one nominator with additional approval from governing board officers. Who Can Be Nominated?
