The role is designed for an experienced humanitarian professional with strong technical expertise in GBV prevention, mitigation, and response in complex emergency settings. Role Purpose The GBV Specialist will support the Protection Coordinator and Protection Manager in defining, implementing, and strengthening the mission-wide GBV strategy. The position will focus on developing effective GBV prevention and response frameworks, building staff capacity, ensuring alignment with international standards, and improving the quality and impact of GBV programming across operational areas. Working closely with protection teams, the GBV Specialist will provide technical guidance to ensure that GBV components are delivered in accordance with INTERSOS internal guidelines, global protection frameworks, and humanitarian principles, while upholding the organisation’s values and human resources vision. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership and Programme Quality The GBV Specialist will lead the development and implementation of the mission’s GBV Response Framework, ensuring alignment with the overall Protection Strategy and the INTERSOS Global Protection Framework. The role involves identifying key GBV risks and contributing factors affecting women, men, girls, and boys through community mapping and participatory assessments. The position holder will ensure that programming builds on positive community practices, assets, and structures that support GBV prevention. This includes developing position papers on priority GBV response areas, designing mitigation measures for identified risks, and producing tools to engage men and boys in addressing GBV drivers. The specialist will ensure inclusive programming that addresses the needs of male and boy survivors, oversee training of GBV case management teams, and support the design of youth- and adolescent-focused initiatives to increase awareness and prevention of GBV. Culturally appropriate awareness materials and key messaging will be developed and disseminated using traditional and community-based communication channels. Coordination, Strategy, and Capacity Building In close coordination with the Protection Manager and Coordinator, the GBV Specialist will contribute to mission-level protection strategies and GBV-related project proposals. The role includes providing technical support during programme implementation, adapting global and internal guidelines to the local context, and ensuring coherence of GBV interventions across all implementation sites. The specialist will lead and support capacity-building initiatives for protection and non-protection staff, including trainings, workshops, mentoring, and supervision. This ensures effective mainstreaming of GBV principles across sectors and sustained programme quality. The role also involves contributing to GBV needs assessments, protection situation analyses, trend reporting, and lessons learned to inform programme development, advocacy, and policy engagement. Monitoring, Reporting, and Data Management The GBV Specialist will support ethical data collection and management in line with INTERSOS data protection protocols and global ethical standards. This includes technical oversight of GBVIMS documentation, data analysis, reporting, and secure data storage. Regular field monitoring visits will be conducted to assess programme quality, identify gaps, and recommend improvements. The specialist will also support the development of beneficiary feedback and complaints mechanisms and ensure appropriate follow-up. Safeguarding, PSEA, and Child Protection The position holder will actively support the implementation of Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and Child Protection policies, ensuring survivor safety, confidentiality, dignity, and informed consent at all times. Potential survivors of sexual exploitation and abuse will be interviewed in accordance with safety and ethical standards. Representation and Partnerships The GBV Specialist will represent INTERSOS in relevant coordination forums, clusters, and working groups at national and field levels. The role includes maintaining strong relationships with government authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, donors, and other stakeholders, and advocating for respect of human rights and minimum protection standards. Eligibility and Position Requirements Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements: Education: HND or equivalent qualification in Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work, Human Rights, International Humanitarian Law, or a related field Experience: Minimum five (5) years of experience in protection-related sectors, preferably with an INGO At least 3–4 years of professional experience in humanitarian settings Minimum two (2) years of direct management of GBV programmes in the field Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of international GBV standards and guidelines in humanitarian contexts Proven experience in survivor-centred, multi-sectoral GBV response Experience in GBV primary prevention and community-based approaches Familiarity with inter-agency guidelines and WHO ethical data-sharing standards Skills: Strong analytical, reporting, and training development skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office and monitoring and evaluation tools Excellent coordination, communication, and diplomacy skills Values: Commitment to INTERSOS principles, humanitarian ethics, and safeguarding standards Application Process and Deadline Interested candidates must complete the online application form and upload a CV and cover letter, clearly named using the format:“Surname_Position Applied For” Deadline: Monday, 29 December 2025 at 12:00 PM Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and INTERSOS reserves the right to close the vacancy before the deadline if a suitable candidate is identified.
