Applications are now open for early-career professionals to participate in the First Order Draft (FOD) review of the Working Group I contribution to the Seventh Assessment Report (AR7) by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. This initiative provides a valuable opportunity for emerging researchers and professionals to contribute to one of the most influential global scientific assessments on climate change. The review process will take place from 10 August to 2 October 2026, and selected participants will collaborate as part of a coordinated Early Career Researcher (ECR) group review. Application Deadline: 23 March 2026 (23:59 UTC-12) Notification of Results: Late April to early May 2026 Review Period: August – October 2026 Participation Type: Remote, collaborative review About the IPCC AR7 Working Group I Report The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change produces comprehensive assessment reports that inform global climate policy and scientific understanding. The Working Group I (WGI) contribution focuses on the physical science basis of climate change, including: Climate systems and processes Observed changes in the climate system Future climate projections Human influence on global warming The Seventh Assessment Report (AR7) will play a critical role in shaping international climate action, making this review process a significant opportunity for contributors to engage with cutting-edge research and policy-relevant science. Coordinating Organizations This ECR-led group review is coordinated by a coalition of international scientific networks and organizations, including: Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP ECR) International Glaciological Society (IGS EGG) Past Global Changes (PAGES ECN) Polar Impact Permafrost Young Researchers Network (PYRN) World Climate Research Programme Climate and Cryosphere (WCRP CliC) Young Earth System Scientists (YESS) These organizations aim to amplify the voices and contributions of early-career professionals in global climate science processes. Purpose of the Group Review The initiative is designed to: Provide early-career professionals with hands-on experience in scientific review processes Strengthen capacity in climate science assessment and evaluation Foster collaboration across international research networks Ensure diverse perspectives contribute to the IPCC review process Participants will review selected sections of the report and provide structured feedback, contributing to the refinement and accuracy of the final publication. Eligibility Criteria The opportunity is open to early-career professionals worldwide, regardless of nationality or country of residence. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: Currently enrolled in higher education, including: Advanced Master’s students PhD candidates Postdoctoral researchers Early-career academics or professionals within 10 years of completing their most recent degree (PhD or equivalent) Exceptions to the 10-year limit may be considered in cases of: Maternity or parental leave Caregiving responsibilities Health-related interruptions Other significant career breaks (with explanation) Participation Considerations Applicants should be aware of the following: Participation is subject to individual responsibility for compliance with any institutional or national restrictions Any potential implications of participation must be assessed independently by the applicant The program aims to be inclusive but acknowledges that external factors may affect participation This ensures transparency and allows applicants to make informed decisions before applying.
