The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking an experienced fundraising and nonprofit leader to join its San Diego office as a Senior Development Manager. Based in San Diego, California, this full-time hybrid position offers an opportunity to lead resource mobilization, donor engagement, communications, volunteer management, and community partnerships for one of the world’s leading humanitarian organizations. About the Position The Senior Development Manager will oversee IRC San Diego’s development and communications functions across both the San Diego and El Cajon offices. As a member of the office’s senior leadership team, the successful candidate will work closely with executive leadership to develop fundraising strategies, strengthen donor relationships, supervise volunteer programmes, and enhance public engagement. The role also includes direct supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator as well as interns and volunteers supporting the development unit. Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will provide leadership across several strategic areas. Resource Development Responsibilities include: Leading annual fundraising strategies targeting approximately US$1 million in private funding and in-kind donations. Developing annual fundraising and development plans. Coordinating grant proposal development and submission. Building relationships with corporate partners, foundations, philanthropists, and major donors. Leading donor stewardship and cultivation initiatives. Managing fundraising campaigns and sponsorship opportunities. Overseeing special fundraising events. Ensuring accurate donor records within Salesforce CRM. Monitoring restricted funding and donor reporting requirements. Communications and Public Engagement The Senior Development Manager will also: Develop annual communications and marketing strategies. Manage social media, email campaigns, and traditional media outreach. Coordinate media relations with IRC Headquarters. Produce the annual IRC San Diego Impact Report. Prepare speeches, presentations, and advocacy materials. Represent IRC at public events, meetings, and community engagements. Ensure all public communications comply with IRC branding standards. Volunteer Programme Leadership Key responsibilities include: Supervising volunteer recruitment and placement activities. Supporting volunteer onboarding and training. Ensuring compliance with volunteer management policies. Mentoring volunteer programme staff. Staff Management The role includes responsibility for: Supervising direct reports. Providing coaching and professional development. Conducting regular performance reviews. Building an inclusive and collaborative team culture. Managing team workload and overtime in compliance with California labour regulations. Required Qualifications Applicants should possess: Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business Administration, or a related discipline. A graduate degree is considered an advantage. Required Experience Candidates should demonstrate: At least 5 years of progressive fundraising and resource development experience. Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience. Proven grant writing and donor stewardship expertise. Experience managing communications or public relations. Experience developing fundraising budgets and tracking performance. Preferred experience includes: Working with major donors, corporations, or foundations in Southern California. Experience within integrated fundraising structures similar to IRC’s fundraising model. Desired Skills The ideal candidate will possess: Excellent leadership and team management abilities. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Strong networking and relationship-building capabilities. Grant writing expertise. Project management and organisational skills. Working Arrangement The position follows a hybrid work schedule requiring: Minimum of three days per week in the office. Remote work flexibility on remaining days. Local travel across the San Diego and El Cajon service areas. Occasional evening and weekend work for fundraising events and community engagements. Candidates residing within San Diego County are strongly preferred.
