Social Media Consultant Job Overview The part-time consultant will be responsible for developing engaging digital content across multiple social media platforms. The consultant will be expected to create four short-form videos each month, with content optimized for platforms such as Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, as well as emerging social media channels. Responsibilities will include: Creating engaging short-form videos. Sourcing footage and imagery from approved JGI archives and content libraries. Editing videos for different social media platforms. Adding captions, music, graphics and motion elements. Adapting storytelling techniques to suit individual platforms. Ensuring content supports JGI’s communications priorities. The role requires an understanding of how visual content can be adapted to different audiences and social media formats. Roots & Shoots Youth Content The consultant will also support JGI’s Roots & Shoots youth movement by developing social media content that highlights youth leaders, projects and community impact. The successful candidate will create eight social media posts per month focused on Roots & Shoots projects and stories from across the United States. The work will involve collaborating with JGI staff to identify suitable projects and success stories that can be transformed into engaging digital content. Research and Sanctuary Content Another key responsibility will be creating content highlighting JGI’s research and sanctuary activities. The consultant will produce four social media posts per month featuring subjects such as wildlife stories, conservation achievements and chimpanzee rehabilitation efforts. This part of the position provides an opportunity for a communications professional to translate conservation and scientific work into accessible and engaging social media storytelling. Content Optimization and Brand Management The consultant will be expected to ensure that all content follows JGI’s established brand standards and messaging priorities. Responsibilities will include adapting creative formats and approaches to improve engagement and reach across different platforms. Strong editorial judgment will be important because the consultant will be responsible for selecting and presenting stories that accurately reflect the organization’s mission. Qualifications and Skills The Jane Goodall Institute is seeking candidates with one to three years of social media experience and demonstrated success creating short-form video content for mission-driven organizations or causes. Applicants should have skills in: Social media content creation. Short-form video editing. Photo selection and optimization. Social media graphics production. Written communication.
