Queen Mary University of London is currently inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position within its Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. This is an exciting opportunity for early-career researchers interested in international relations, political sociology, and the study of right-wing political thought. Overview of the Role This full-time, fixed-term position is part of the ESRC-funded “Right Worlds” project, led by Jean-François Drolet and Michael C. Williams. The role will be based at the university’s Mile End Campus in London and is expected to begin on 1 September 2026 (or shortly thereafter). Contract Type: Fixed-term (2 years) Location: London, United Kingdom Salary: £38,419 – £51,755 per annum Application Deadline: 14 April 2026 About the “Right Worlds” Project The “Right Worlds” project explores both the historical foundations and contemporary dynamics of radical right-wing thought within the field of international relations (IR). The research is structured around two main themes: 1. Intellectual History of International Relations The project examines how conservative ideas have shaped the development and historiography of international relations as an academic discipline. 2. Contemporary Radical Conservative Networks It also investigates the evolution of radical conservative international thought, particularly within think tanks and policy networks across Europe and North America since the 1960s. Using approaches from political sociology, the project maps: Key institutions and organizations Ideological positions and policy agendas Strategies used to influence global politics Patterns of collaboration and competition Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will play an active role in both research and project coordination. Responsibilities include: Conducting original research aligned with the project’s themes Collaborating closely with the principal investigators Supporting the organization of workshops, conferences, and fieldwork Contributing to academic publications and reports Developing independent research outputs related to the project This role offers a strong balance between collaboration and academic independence, making it ideal for researchers aiming to build their publication record.
