Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI)Duty Station: Geneva, SwitzerlandEmployment Type: Full-timIdeal Start Date: 2 March 2026Application Deadline: 11 February 2026 The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) is seeking a qualified and motivated Human Rights Officer to join its Head Office in Geneva. About GANHRI GANHRI is the global membership-based network of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs). It works to promote and strengthen NHRIs’ compliance with the Paris Principles and provides leadership in the promotion and protection of human rights worldwide. GANHRI offers a framework for cooperation and coordination among NHRIs at the international level and supports their engagement with the United Nations human rights system. GANHRI coordinates a wide range of activities, including annual meetings, international conferences, thematic networks, and training and capacity-building initiatives. It works in close partnership with the United Nations Human Rights Office—particularly the National Institutions and Regional Mechanisms Section (NIRMS)—as well as with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). GANHRI also collaborates closely with its four Regional Networks: NANHRI (Africa), RINDHCA (Americas), APF (Asia Pacific), and ENNHRI (Europe). GANHRI is registered in Switzerland as a not-for-profit association and is headquartered at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. More information is available at www.ganhri.org. Position Overview Under the supervision of the Director or Deputy Director, the Human Rights Officer will contribute to GANHRI’s substantive, operational, and strategic work, with a particular focus on supporting NHRIs’ engagement with United Nations human rights mechanisms. Key Duties and Responsibilities The Human Rights Officer will be responsible for, among other tasks: Conducting research and drafting, reviewing, and editing a variety of documents, including reports, statements, submissions, and communications; Preparing background and briefing notes related to GANHRI’s work and NHRI engagement with UN mechanisms; Providing advice and support to NHRIs in their advocacy and participation in UN human rights mechanisms, including treaty bodies, special procedures, and the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), and maintaining accurate records of such engagement; Reviewing and analysing UN reports and compiling inputs from GANHRI members for submissions to UN human rights mechanisms; Preparing for, attending, and reporting on meetings and events at the United Nations; Participating in working-level meetings and supporting GANHRI Working Groups and task forces; Organising and delivering trainings and workshops; Conducting human rights analysis and research on a range of thematic issues; Developing content for GANHRI’s website and knowledge-exchange and communications platforms in close collaboration with the Communications Officer; Drafting documents and coordinating translations when required; Providing guidance and supervision to interns and volunteers, as needed; Supporting the preparation and organisation of GANHRI’s institutional meetings, including General Assemblies, conferences, Bureau meetings, and side events; Contributing to the general functioning of the office, including administrative tasks; Managing project budgets, reporting to donors, and contributing to fundraising efforts; Performing other related duties as required. Qualifications and Experience Education:A Master’s degree in law, international relations, or a related field is required. Strong knowledge of human rights and UN human rights mechanisms is essential. Professional Experience:A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in human rights, international organisations, or non-profit organisations is required. Core Competencies Professionalism: Demonstrated knowledge of international human rights issues and mechanisms; strong research, analytical, and drafting skills; ability to evaluate information from diverse sources and assess its impact on human rights contexts. Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively, value diverse perspectives, learn from others, and contribute constructively to team outcomes. Planning and Organisation: Strong organisational skills, ability to prioritise tasks, manage time and resources effectively, anticipate risks, and adapt plans as needed. Languages and Other Requirements English, French, Spanish, and Arabic are GANHRI’s working languages. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French are essential. Proficiency in at least one additional GANHRI working language is considered an asset. A valid Swiss work permit is required.
