Research Assistant Position at University of Glasgow Location: GlasgowSalary: Grade 6 – £33,951 to £37,694 per annumContract: Full-time (35 hours per week), fixed term for 18 monthsClosing Date: 4 March 2026 Overview of the Role The University of Glasgow is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to contribute to two major research projects within social policy: Policy Modelling for Health, led by Professor Ellen Stewart and Dr Clementine Hill-O’Connor Changing Realities, led by Professor Ruth Patrick The successful candidate will support the delivery of high-quality research outputs, contribute to publications and funding proposals, and assist in the management of complex research activities. The role offers an opportunity to work collaboratively within a dynamic academic environment and to strengthen an emerging research profile. Purpose of the Post The Research Assistant will: Conduct and support research activities aligned with project deliverables and strategic objectives. Assist in producing high-quality academic publications and reports. Contribute to future research development through funding applications. Support project coordination and team collaboration. Enhance the University’s national and international research profile. For the Policy Modelling for Health project, the role will involve travel to field sites across England, including occasional overnight stays. Key Responsibilities Working under the guidance of the Principal or Co-Investigator, the postholder will: Research Delivery Plan and conduct individual and collaborative research activities. Analyse and interpret qualitative and/or quantitative data. Maintain accurate research records, databases, and documentation. Draft technical reports, progress updates, and academic papers. Research Profile and Impact Contribute to internationally recognised publications. Present findings at national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops. Support activities that enhance research impact, including societal and economic contributions. Gather indicators of esteem and research recognition. Funding and Development Identify potential funding sources. Assist in preparing competitive research proposals. Contribute to strategic research planning within the School and College. Collaboration and Mentorship Participate actively in team meetings, workshops, and seminars. Support the supervision and mentoring of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Contribute to the development of early-career researchers and project team members. Teaching and Administration Undertake modest teaching duties, such as demonstrating, as assigned. Carry out associated administrative tasks. Assist with budget monitoring and project expenditure management. Support broader School and Research Group administrative activities. Professional Development Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in social policy. Engage in continuing professional development activities. Undertake additional reasonable duties as required by the Head of School or Director of Research Institute. Contribute to enhancing the University’s international standing in line with institutional strategy. Person Specification Essential Qualifications and Knowledge SCQF Level 10 (Honours degree) in social policy or a related discipline. Specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of social policy. Comprehensive understanding of participatory research methods. Up-to-date awareness of developments within the field. Desirable Qualification A completed, submitted, or near-completion PhD in social policy or a related discipline. Essential Skills Strong subject-specific and project management skills. Demonstrated research creativity and interdisciplinary collaboration. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public presentation. Ability to communicate complex data and concepts clearly. Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities. Effective workload, time, and budget management. Advanced IT and data analysis skills. Self-motivation and capacity for independent working. Flexible and pragmatic problem-solving approach. Essential Experience Relevant research experience appropriate to an early-career researcher. Experience conducting participatory research. Experience in academic writing and publication. Proven ability to deliver high-quality outputs within agreed deadlines. Evidence of an emerging research track record. Employment Conditions and Benefits Salary: Grade 6 (£33,951–£37,694 per annum). Contract: Full-time (35 hours per week), funded for 18 months in the first instance. Annual Leave: 41 days (for full-time staff). Pension: Generous pension provision.
