Kiroween 2026 returns as Kiro’s annual Halloween-themed hackathon, inviting developers, innovators, and technology enthusiasts to transform creative ideas into innovative software projects. Hosted through Devpost, the event challenges participants to experiment with emerging technologies, revive outdated systems, combine unconventional tools, and develop memorable digital experiences. Building on the success of the previous edition, Kiroween 2026 promises another exciting opportunity for developers to showcase their technical expertise, creative thinking, and problem-solving abilities. With an anticipated US$100,000 in cash prizes, the hackathon offers participants an opportunity to turn ambitious concepts into practical applications while competing for recognition and rewards. Registration and Important Dates Registration is currently open, allowing interested participants to secure their places before the official project submission period begins. Although the theme categories have been announced, the complete challenge details, submission requirements, judging criteria, prize distribution, and bonus challenges will be released on Friday, 30 October 2026. Eligible project development and submissions will formally open on that date. Participants will then have until Friday, 4 December 2026, at 2:00 PM Pacific Time to complete and submit their projects. An important requirement is that all eligible submissions must be new projects created during the official submission period. Previously developed projects will not qualify. Participants are therefore encouraged to use the registration period to research, explore ideas, identify potential collaborators, and prepare for the challenge without beginning development prematurely. Preparing for Kiroween 2026 Several preparatory steps can help participants approach the hackathon with confidence. Establishing a Kiro account: Participants should create or sign in to an account through kiro.dev and locate their Kiro user ID. A valid Kiro user ID or AWS account ID is required for registration. Joining the Kiro community: The Kiro Discord community provides an opportunity to connect with fellow developers, seek assistance, and receive updates from the Kiro team. The designated kiroween-hackathon channel is an important source of event announcements and information. Finding teammates: Participants can browse the Devpost Participants tab to identify potential collaborators. The hackathon accommodates both individual developers and teams, allowing participants to determine their preferred working arrangements before or during the preparation period. Exploring previous projects: The Kiroween 2025 project gallery offers inspiration through applications developed by previous participants. Reviewing these projects can help developers understand the event’s creative possibilities and identify opportunities for fresh approaches. Preparing for launch: Participants should mark 30 October 2026 on their calendars, when the full challenge requirements will be published and eligible project development will begin. Kiroween 2026 Theme Categories The hackathon features four creative categories designed to encourage experimentation and technical innovation. Resurrection This category challenges developers to bring discontinued, obsolete, or forgotten technologies back to life. Participants can reimagine older systems using modern innovations, demonstrating how previously abandoned technologies can address contemporary challenges or solve future problems. Frankenstein The Frankenstein category encourages developers to combine seemingly incompatible technologies, tools, and concepts into a single application. By connecting unconventional components, participants can create unexpected solutions that demonstrate the power of technological integration and creative experimentation. Skeleton Crew This category focuses on developing a streamlined, reusable code foundation that remains simple, understandable, and adaptable. Participants must demonstrate the flexibility of their foundation by building two distinct applications from the same underlying template, highlighting its versatility across different use cases. Costume Contest The Costume Contest category celebrates applications with polished, distinctive, and memorable user interfaces. Participants can build any type of application, provided its visual design incorporates creative, Halloween-inspired elements that complement the functionality and enhance the overall user experience. Innovation, Creativity, and Opportunity Kiroween 2026 provides a platform for developers to explore new possibilities, demonstrate their skills, and engage with a broader technology community. Its combination of creative themes, technical challenges, and substantial cash prizes makes the event an opportunity for both experienced software engineers and aspiring innovators. With registration already open, prospective participants can begin preparing their accounts, building connections, and refining their ideas. However, project development must wait until the official submission period opens on 30 October 2026. By combining technical experimentation with imaginative problem-solving, participants can use Kiroween 2026 to develop original applications and showcase the potential of modern software development.
