Legal Action Worldwide (LAW)Location: Nairobi, KenyaContract: Full-time, 12 months (with possibility of extension) Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Grants and MEAL Coordinator to strengthen its grant management, monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL), and donor engagement functions. This position is based in LAW’s Nairobi office, with opportunities for field travel, and plays a central role in ensuring quality, compliance, and effectiveness across LAW’s growing portfolio of institutional grants. About Legal Action Worldwide Legal Action Worldwide is an independent, non-profit association of human rights lawyers and jurists working to ensure that survivors of human rights violations and international crimes are able to access justice. LAW delivers targeted, survivor-centred, gender-competent, and trauma-informed support, combining national and international expertise in conflict-affected contexts. Operating across 18 countries, LAW works directly with survivors and their communities to build capacity for meaningful engagement with justice and advocacy processes. In parallel, the organisation provides technical assistance to justice institutions and works with legislators to strengthen accountability, the rule of law, and sustainable peace. LAW implements innovative accountability strategies, including strategic litigation at national, regional, and international levels. Its vision is a world in which all victims and survivors can access justice, ensuring that impunity does not undermine peace and human rights. About the Role The Grants and MEAL Coordinator is a key organisational role, working closely with the Grants and Partnership Manager and programme teams to oversee grant management systems, reporting processes, donor compliance, and MEAL functions. The role contributes to strengthening LAW’s institutional funding portfolio and advancing internal systems, tools, and policies. This position provides cross-cutting support across the organisation, ensuring that donor requirements are met, programme quality is maintained, and organisational learning is embedded into programme design and implementation. Key Responsibilities Grants Management and Compliance Oversee grant documentation and continuously improve grants management systems. Lead the organisation’s grants calendar and support implementation of grants-related standard operating procedures. Coordinate administrative aspects of the grant cycle, including grant openings, amendments, and closures. Maintain grants tools, checklists, databases, and templates to ensure accessibility and accuracy. Ensure high-quality, timely narrative and financial reporting to donors, including through donor portals. Map donor rules and regulations and support staff training on compliance requirements. Support donor and partner due diligence processes in collaboration with programme managers. Track and disseminate relevant funding opportunities across the organisation. Donor Engagement and Institutional Funding Support donor engagement through research on donor priorities and funding strategies. Maintain and update LAW’s donor matrix and institutional funding pipeline. Support preparation of grant applications, proposals, and concept notes. Contribute to strengthening relationships with institutional donors, foundations, and trusts. MEAL and Organisational Learning Lead collection and consolidation of organisational data through internal MEAL tools. Contribute to the development and maintenance of global indicator trackers and MEAL policies. Support programme teams to design and implement MEAL plans and evaluation processes. Strengthen evidence-based programming through data analysis, learning, and reporting. Support the development of project fact sheets, presentations, and briefing materials. Location, Contract, and Benefits Duty station: Nairobi, Kenya, with opportunities for field travel. Contract duration: 12 months, full-time, with potential extension subject to funding. Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience, plus benefits. Candidates must have the legal right to work in Kenya. Candidate Profile LAW is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive professional with strong grants management and MEAL expertise, capable of working in a dynamic, international environment. Essential Qualifications and Experience Master’s degree in law, international relations, social sciences, or a related field. At least five years of experience in a similar role within an international organisation. Demonstrated experience working on EU-funded grants, including management of sub-grantees. Strong knowledge of donor rules and regulations, particularly EU and European institutional donors. Excellent drafting skills and proven experience producing high-quality reports and proposals. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Experience working with foundations and trusts. Desirable Experience and Skills Experience with legal or human rights programmes. Knowledge of consortium management. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and collaborative working style.
