Description

Introduction The AU–EU Youth Voices Lab – Power of the Collective has launched an exciting opportunity for emerging filmmakers through its “Lens of Change” open call. This initiative invites young creatives to use storytelling as a tool for social impact, amplifying youth voices and documenting transformative community work across Africa and Europe. About the Lens of Change Initiative The Lens of Change programme is a rolling recruitment campaign designed to build a diverse network of young filmmakers aged 18 to 35. Selected participants will join a pre-vetted talent pool and be engaged on a project basis. The initiative focuses on capturing powerful, real-world stories that highlight: Youth-led advocacy Community-driven impact Social transformation across regions By connecting filmmakers from Africa and Europe, the programme fosters cross-continental dialogue and collaboration, helping to bring underrepresented stories to a global audience. What Selected Filmmakers Will Do Participants in the programme will create compelling visual content that showcases the voices and experiences of young changemakers. Deliverables include: Short documentaries (3–15 minutes) Social media video edits Event highlight reels These productions will serve as storytelling tools to raise awareness, influence conversations, and promote social change within and beyond local communities. Grants and Benefits Filmmakers selected for projects under the Lens of Change initiative will receive: Project-based grants ranging from €765 to €1,800 Opportunities to collaborate with international partners Exposure to global audiences and networks Portfolio development through impactful storytelling projects This combination of financial support and professional growth makes the programme a valuable opportunity for emerging creatives. Who Should Apply The open call is ideal for young filmmakers with a passion for storytelling and social impact. Applicants should have: Experience in filming, storytelling, and video editing A strong interest in social issues and community narratives The ability to produce engaging and meaningful visual content Creatives who are driven to highlight youth voices and inspire change will find this opportunity particularly rewarding. Why This Opportunity Matters The Lens of Change initiative goes beyond filmmaking—it is about empowering young storytellers to shape narratives that matter. By documenting grassroots efforts and youth-led initiatives, filmmakers contribute to: Increased visibility of community impact Stronger connections between Africa and Europe Greater recognition of youth leadership in social change In an increasingly visual world, storytelling plays a critical role in influencing perspectives and driving action. This programme positions young creatives at the heart of that movement. How to Apply Interested applicants are encouraged to review the Terms of Reference (TOR) and submit their application through the official forms provided in both English and French. As this is a rolling recruitment, early applications are encouraged to increase the chances of selection for upcoming projects. Final Thoughts The Lens of Change open call is a unique platform for young filmmakers to combine creativity with purpose. With financial support, international exposure, and meaningful storytelling opportunities, participants can play a vital role in amplifying youth voices and documenting stories that inspire real change. For aspiring filmmakers ready to make an impact, this is more than an opportunity—it’s a chance to tell stories that matter on a global stage. Exclusive Insight: Why the Lens of Change Opportunity Stands Out The Lens of Change initiative distinguishes itself by offering more than a single project opportunity—it creates a long-term pathway for emerging filmmakers to grow within the global storytelling and development space. Unlike traditional calls that end after one engagement, this programme builds a pre-vetted network of creatives who can be repeatedly selected for future assignments across Africa and Europe. This structure allows participants to develop sustained professional relationships, gain consistent exposure, and access multiple income-generating opportunities over time. Filmmakers are positioned not just as content creators, but as key contributors to social impact, advocacy, and policy visibility. Another standout feature is the programme’s focus on bridging creative industries with social development. By aligning storytelling with youth-led advocacy and community transformation, Lens of Change elevates the role of film in influencing dialogue, shifting narratives, and driving change at both local and international levels. For young creatives seeking meaningful work, financial support, and long-term career growth, this initiative provides a rare combination of purpose, visibility, and sustainability in the global filmmaking landscape.
