The Life & Peace Institute (LPI), in partnership with the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) and the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR), has announced a call for applications for the third cohort of its Capacity Strengthening Training on the African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP). The training is designed to strengthen the knowledge, practical skills and professional networks of civil society and community-based organisations working in transitional justice, peacebuilding, reconciliation, human rights and related fields across the Horn of Africa and Great Lakes Region. Applications are open to eligible participants from nine countries, with the deadline set for 30 August 2026. African Union Transitional Justice Policy Training The capacity-strengthening programme will focus on building the ability of civil society and community-based organisations to engage more effectively with transitional justice processes. Participants will have an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of the African Union Transitional Justice Policy, while developing relevant knowledge and networks for work in areas including: Transitional justice. Peacebuilding. Reconciliation. Human rights. Community-based approaches to peace and justice. Related conflict transformation and governance issues. The programme forms part of efforts to strengthen locally rooted organisations and practitioners working to address the legacies of conflict and promote sustainable peace across the region. Training Dates and Location The third cohort is tentatively scheduled to participate in the training from 27 to 29 October 2026. The training will take place in Naivasha, Kenya, bringing together participants from countries across the Horn of Africa and Great Lakes Region. LPI will cover the main participation costs associated with the training. This includes: Travel expenses. Accommodation. Meals. The financial support is intended to enable selected participants to attend the in-person programme without bearing the principal participation costs. Who Can Apply?
